Sunrider Joins with UNICEF to ‘Say Yes for Children’

On June 14, 2010, in Hong Kong, Sunrider was recognized by UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) at a ceremony for its US$200,000 donation to UNICEF's “Say Yes for Children” program, a global campaign with the aim of building a better world for children and young people around the world. The donation amount represents Sunrider’s fourth consecutive annual donation to UNICEF, and reflects Sunrider’s commitment to donate an eventual US$1 million to the organization dedicated to “building a world where the rights of every child are realized.”

The event, which was held in the lobby of the Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, attracted over a hundred Sunrider China ABOs and Sunrider Hong Kong IBOs, who came in support of Drs. Chen and their charity work. Prior to the ceremony, Dr. Chen gave a short speech expressing how happy and excited he was to work with UNICEF and how he hopes everyone will endeavor to do more for children. To conclude, he wished everyone better health and a better life, and reaffirmed his support of the “Say Yes for Children” program.

During the donation ceremony, Drs. Chen presented a check to UNICEF representatives, namely Aaron Kwok, ambassador of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF, and known as the “King of Pop” in Asia; and Leonie Ki and Maggie Koong, members of the Hong Kong Committee for UNICEF. In return, these representatives presented a certificate of appreciation to Drs. Chen, recognizing them for their humanitarian work. The event came to a close with Drs. Chen, Aaron Kwok, and the committee members leaving impressions of their hands on commemorative plaques, symbolizing their continuing commitment to support the rights of children.

Innovative Skin Care Products for Beautiful, Healthy Skin

According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times entitled “Skin care’s new favorite ingredient: hyaluronic acid,” by Alene Dawson, hyaluronic acid—which is found in many of Sunrider’s skin care products—is the beauty industry’s new superstar product. It’s a moisturizing and lubricating substance that occurs naturally in the body, and is now being added to many beauty products and procedures to smooth and refine wrinkles, and give skin a youthful, “plump” appearance.

There are numerous beauty products on the market that contain hyaluronic acid (soap, for example), but according to the article, these products do not really deliver any specific benefits because the product is not absorbed into the skin or gets washed off. At Sunrider, we use a very stable form of hyaluronic acid that is label-listed as “sodium hyaluronate.” Our hyaluronic acid is a naturally derived compound that provides numerous benefits. It has exceptional moisturizing properties (it holds up to 3,000 times its weight in water!) and also helps support the performance of the peptides, vitamins, and botanical extracts that are integral to our proprietary formulations.

Some of our best-selling age-defying products contain hyaluronic acid, but it’s the combination with other superior ingredients plus the hyaluronic acid that creates the magic. Remember that our products are all based on the Philosophy of Regeneration® of our own master herbalist, Dr. Tei-Fu Chen.

We have hyaluronic acid in quite a few of our products. Here are three examples:

Kandesn® Protective Foundation SPF 15 is a winner with woman of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. It contains hyaluronic acid combined with squalane and a whole array of botanicals.  Women say it gives them flawless coverage and actually appears to soften fine lines. IBO Blue Howell of San Clemente, CA, says she always feels younger after she applies her foundation and then receives a complement; she highly recommends it!

Oi-Lin® Eye Cream is one of our best-selling products. It reflects Dr. Chen’s genius at formulating products, containing a full array of prized ingredients that ensure results. Peptides, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid work synergistically to soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and reduce puffiness.

Dr. Chen® Refining & Lifting Cream is another great product. Many of our IBOs who have been using it report that this product lifts away the appearance of fine lines, and that it makes their skin feel more youthful, firmer, and tighter. Once again, hyaluronic acid is one of the key ingredients in this product. IBO Glenda Feilen of El Cajon, CA, says this is one of the products that helps her “get a year younger every birthday.”

So, if you haven’t experienced the benefits of hyaluronic acid in Kandesn® skin care and beauty products, give these products a try today! For a full list of Kandesn® products with hyaluronic acid or to have a regime designed especially for you, call Julie McLewee at (310) 222-9293 or e-mail her at julie.mclewee@sunrider.com.

2010 IBO Convention Cruise to the Mediterranean

This year, Sunrider’s two-week cruise around the Mediterranean was a dream come true for many of our IBOs and for Dr. Chen himself. Over 800 IBOs from Canada, Western Europe, Hungary, Israel, Russia, and the United States went on this once-in-a-lifetime event. Prior to boarding, many IBOs took a tour of Rome’s incredible monuments—the Colisseum, the Circus Maximus, Vatican, and Sistine Chapel—and did some brand-name shopping near the Spanish Steps.

On Tuesday, May 18, Sunriders began a 12-day journey to some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring places in the world. Ports of call included the following destinations:
  • Sorrento, Italy, to enjoy the beautiful isle of Capri and the ancient ruins of Pompeii.
  • Athens, Greece, home of the Parthenon, located atop the most famous Acropolis in the world.
  • Rhodes, Greece, a Greek island with beautiful beaches and the acropolis of Lindos.
  • Ephesus, Turkey, an important Biblical site with famous ruins such as the Library of Celsus.
  • Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt—a fulfillment of Dr. Chen’s dream to see the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only wonder of the ancient world still in existence.
  • Messina (Sicily), Italy, to tour the lovely town of Taormina, also known for its delicious gelato.

Fun and business always go together with Sunrider, and the meetings during the days at sea were equally inspiring. For the opening general sessions, Dr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, and top Business Leaders discussed new products, how to promote products, and their success stories. IBOs were particularly motivated by the advice received from top business builders during the Leadership Meeting. At the compensation plan meetings, Dr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, and leaders discussed the incredible benefits of the new compensation plan and price list. IBOs really enjoyed having open access to the Chens and top leaders at the meetings and throughout the trip.

The second generation of Sunrider also presented informative workshops and were involved during the entire cruise. Wendy Teng held a workshop about the new marketing tools, and she gave every Independent Business Owner a copy of the new Sunrider Simply the Best® brochure. John Teng unveiled the new Opportunity Meeting Presentation during his meeting and gave tips on how to hold a product fair. In addition to speaking at the general sessions and discussing business and products with IBOs throughout the cruise, Sunny Beutler, Jonathan Beutler, Jonathan Chen (who recently started working in Sunrider’s IT department), and Chelsea Chen provided a lot of important behind-the-scenes support for the cruise. They took photographs for our SunWriter World Magazine, provided set-up and IT support for each meeting, and participated in the workshops.

The most fun workshops were the two Kandesn® workshops held by Julie McLewee, Kandesn® marketing manager. Participants learned how to make Kandesn® an important part of their Sunrider business and tested exciting, new Kandesn® Color Cosmetics.

But the most special meeting was Dr. Chen’s New Product Workshop, where Dr. Chen shared his passion for Sunrider® products and the future of Sunrider. “We have a gold mine with Sunrider, and we need to share, share, share!”

At the end of this exhilarating cruise, we heard many IBOs say, “I can’t wait to get home and start working!”

Redefining “Comfort Food”

Sunrider Helps Effect Lifestyle Change and Weight Loss

Born into an Italian family where the “language of love was food,” Michelle Rynning of Broken Arrow, OK, says, “We ate when we were happy, we ate when we were sad, or bored, depressed, etc. So I was overweight as a child and then transitioned into a morbidly obese woman. At one point I tipped the scales at 242 lbs. on my 5’ 5 ½” frame, and wore a size 22.”

Michelle tried all the latest diets and usually found short term success, but it just didn’t last. “The weight crept back on, with a few added pounds. It was a vicious cycle, trying to lose weight and always having the food cravings for different things, especially sugar. I determined sugar was like a drug—the more you ate, the more you wanted,” she says.

In 2007, Michelle was 53, weighed 235 lbs., and was a size 20. She knew this wasn’t good for her health and that she needed to change, but she wasn’t sure how. After trying many diets over the years with little success, she was discouraged. Later, though, someone introduced her to Sunrider with Calli®. Eventually, Michelle and her husband attended a Sunrider meeting where they learned about Sunrider’s other products and how they work to nourish, cleanse, and balance the body. Michelle says it was then that “my husband and I agreed this was the path for us and that God had directed our steps to this place. We couldn’t wait to get started!”

In April 2008, Michelle, who now weighed 200.8 lbs., and her husband became Sunrider Independent Business Owners and began a vegan, whole-food lifestyle. “I began drinking the Calli®, and eating the NuPlus®, Quinary®, and SunBars…I also incorporated stretching exercises and five to ten minutes a day on our little rebounder trampoline. The pounds just melted off and within several months I had lost 30 lbs. and several sizes,” Michelle says, “but the best part was that there was never any cravings, or saggy skin.* This was amazing because I had quit eating sugar, meat, and dairy all at the same time. I knew it was the Sunrider® foods that satisfied my body. Besides not having cravings, my husband and I both noticed increased energy and endurance.”

Now, two years later, Michelle weighs 149 lbs., and is a size 10 (down from a size 20)! Today, she continues to lose weight, although at a slower pace, but this time it’s stayed off.* It’s the first time that’s happened in all her years of dieting! Now that Michelle’s eating healthy, nutritious foods, her “comfort food” days are a thing of the past. She says, “This is the way we live now, eating Sunrider® foods and following a vegan, whole food lifestyle. We’ve agreed we never want to be without our Sunrider® foods. People tell me I look 10 years younger, and the best part is that I feel great!”

*In conjunction with regular exercise and a healthy diet. Results not typical.

Protect Your Family against Pesticides

A recent article on MSNBC.com reports that new research shows that exposure to pesticides used on “common kid-friendly foods” appears to increase the chances that children will be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The research indicates that exposure comes from many fruits and vegetables that are kid-favorites, including fresh strawberries, celery, and frozen blueberries.

Scientists in the United States and Canada found that children with high levels of pesticide residue in their urine were more likely to have ADHD, a behavior disorder that often disrupts school and social life. Children with “higher-than-average levels of one pesticide marker were nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD as children who showed no traces of the poison.”

Maryse F. Bouchard, a researcher at the University of Montreal in Quebec and the lead author of the study published in the journal Pediatrics, says the important message for parents is to “buy organic as much as possible” and she recommends “washing fruits and vegetables as much as possible.”

SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse is an easy and effective way to protect the health of your family from this potential hazard. Biodegradable, environment-friendly, and made with naturally derived ingredients, Sunrider’s formula cleans pesticides, insecticides, dirt, waxy coatings, oily substances, and other undesirable residues from fruits and vegetables. It even cleans delicate produce like broccoli heads, field greens, and herbs.

What’s more, SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse not only safeguards your family’s health from pesticides and other contaminates, it lets you enjoy cleaner, brighter, and better-tasting produce. Make this amazing product part of your household today.

A Handsome Opportunity for Sunriders

Retail and marketing studies are showing that it’s not just women who splash cash shopping these days—there’s a new generation of men who are becoming more involved with their grooming habits and spending more money on personal care products and clothing. For Sunrider IBOs and ABOs, this presents a big opportunity—a sizable and growing market sector to target.

According to the online article “Guess What? Men Shop, Too,” the opportunity is “downright handsome in the personal care arena. According to the Packaged Facts report ‘Men’s Grooming Products: A Global Analysis,’ the men’s grooming industry is already valued at $19.7 billion worldwide, and is expected to grow nearly 40 percent (to $28 billion) by 2014. And 2010 is expected to be the biggest year ever for product launches aimed at manly men.”
Sunrider is well positioned to provide discerning, value-seeking men with the products they want with its array of men’s skin care and grooming products—products differentiated by matchless quality, unique formulation, and owner expertise.

Dr. Chen knows that healthy skin is a vital aspect of looking great, so he created Dr. Chen® Men’s Skin Care products, a simple-to-use line of skin care products based on the Philosophy of Regeneration™. This philosophy centers on nourishing, cleansing, and balancing the body to help bring out one’s vitality, health, and beauty from the inside as well as the outside.

Many companies use animal oil, mineral oil, and petroleum by-products in their formulations, and make abrasive exfoliants and pH-imbalanced products, which can cause skin problems. However, Sunrider® skin care products are pH balanced and use vegetable-based, natural ingredients to cleanse, balance, and moisturize the skin, gently, safely, and effectively.

Sunrider’s attractive line of male-targeted skin care and personal grooming products can enable anyone to capitalize on this explosive market. After all, men, like women, want to look more youthful and attractive too, as well as “groom themselves” for success in today’s competitive world.

Descriptions of a selection of individual products can be seen by clicking the links below.

World Cup Fever!

For countless people around the world, the big day is almost here! On Friday, June 11, the FIFA
World Cup—the premier international soccer (or football as it’s commonly called outside of the USA) tournament— will kick off in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Held every four years, the World Cup is truly a global phenomenon, attracting the largest worldwide broadcast audience of any sporting event (estimated at 5.9 billion total viewers for the 2006 tournament), and causing fanatical fans to set aside normal life until the event’s conclusion. And the 2010 World Cup is historic—it’s the first time in the tournament’s 80-year history that it’ll be hosted by an African nation. The official match ball of the World Cup is called “Jabulani,” meaning “rejoice” or “be happy” in Zulu. The design is said to represent two of the most important facets of South Africa—diversity and harmony.

The games will run from June 11 until July 11, with 32 teams (representing the six FIFA confederations of Africa; Asia; Europe; North and Central America, and Caribbean; Oceania; and South America) competing for the iconic World Cup trophy. It’s been a long road to the world’s biggest stage; the qualification process began three years ago, with over 200 teams vying to be among the tournament qualifiers in South Africa.

As Sunrider is truly a globe-spanning company, doing business in over 40 countries, it’s likely that thousands of Sunriders will be following the action and rooting for their country’s team. And as we get set to applaud the amazing goals to be scored by superstars such as Ronaldo, Rooney, and Messi, Sunrider would also like to give a special cheer for the “Sunrider Team” of ABOs and IBOs from around the world who strive to “score” their own goals of enhanced vitality, financial freedom, and sharing the Sunrider opportunity.

As they say in South Africa, Jabulani! Here’s to spectacular goals and Sunrider success!
