Sunrider Takes Further Steps to Protect the Environment through Energy Efficiency

Sunrider, in stride with its continuing eco-friendly efforts to create a more energy-efficient workplace, is in the final stages of implementing an integrated energy management system at its World Headquarters, an area that encompasses 350,000 square feet of office space, ballrooms, meeting rooms, and warehouse facilities.
Sunrider has contracted with TAC, a global company that specializes in state-of-the-art solutions for HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning), access control, video security management, lighting control, and energy efficiency. The new integrated technology will enable various systems within Sunrider’s infrastructure to communicate and work together on a daily basis, 24 hours a day. This integration will translate into reduced energy consumption, lessened environmental impact, and a safer and more comfortable work environment.
The automated system, featuring BACnet system technology (TAC’s data communication protocol for building automation and control networks), will be implemented in phases at Sunrider, with the temperature-control phase scheduled first (within the next two weeks). Here are a few examples of how the new system technology will be utilized at Sunrider:
- Temperature control: Automated sensory devices will monitor the temperature to maintain an optimal temperature throughout Sunrider World Headquarters. This will save energy and ensure a more comfortable work environment.
- Lighting & Power: The system will automatically adjust lighting based on occupancy and ambient light levels, which will result in increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption. This measure complements Sunrider’s already extensive (and growing) use of skylights and natural lighting. The system is also designed to react quickly to critical power alarms.
- Fire & Life Safety: To make a safer environment for its employees and visitors, intelligent components will be in place to ensure coordinated control of doors, lighting, and ventilation during emergency situations.
- Web Access: Online technology will allow complete system control, both onsite and remotely, to manage the building easily and securely through one efficient interface. This will streamline facility management operations and optimize energy use.

The Importance of Self-Manufacturing
Hello again, this is James Moore from the International Department at Sunrider. I have been recommending you frequently review Dr. Chen’s speeches, Business Updates, conference calls, etc., because no one understands the health and beauty industry quite like him. His pearls of wisdom are priceless. I’ve recently come across yet another gem that I would like to share with you about the importance of self-manufacturing:
Self-Manufacturing
“We are a unique company because we have our own state-of-the-art manufacturing. State-of-the-art manufacturing makes our products have an extremely high value. We clean, extract, and concentrate many pounds of herbs to make a finished product. We are not just selling products at a high price; we sell our products at a reasonable price and at a fantastic value.
“Right now, many companies focus on antioxidants. However, during processing and pasteurization, their products often lose most of the antioxidants and nutrients. This is why we need extraction and concentration, and why I developed my trade-secret process. Despite the complexity and cost, I know our state-of-the-art manufacturing is the only way to ensure the effectiveness, quality, and high-nutrient contents of our products.
“If you don’t self-manufacture, it means your products are not exclusive. They can be sold to anyone else. Right now, you can find acai, noni, and mangosteen juices everywhere. It’s not unique. Second, you cannot control the quality. You don’t know what they’re doing to your products. How do they clean the herbs? Do they just grind the herbs up with dirt, insects, and feces?
“When you buy products from someone else, you want to buy the products cheap, but the seller/manufacturer wants to make a big profit. How can you satisfy two hungry wolves? These opposing forces usually mean a sacrifice in quality where one gallon turns into 10 gallons. It’s very, very hard to get a quality product if you don’t manufacture it yourself. Sunrider controls everything from start to finish so our products have unique formulas and the highest quality.”

Veterans Day: A Day to Remember
Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is the anniversary of the ending of the “Great War” (World War I). To commemorate this historic day, an "unknown soldier" was buried in the highest place of honor in both England (Westminster Abbey) and France (the Arc de Triomphe). These ceremonies took place on November 11, celebrating the ending of World War I hostilities at 11 am, November 11, 1918—the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This day became known internationally as "Armistice Day.”
In the United States, November 11 officially became known as Armistice Day through an act of Congress in 1926. It wasn't until 12 years later, through a similar act, that Armistice Day became a national holiday. Following World War II, the name of the holiday was changed (enacted June 1, 1954) to Veterans Day to honor those who died in all American wars. The day has since evolved to primarily be a time of honoring living veterans who have served in the military during wartime or peacetime, partially due to competition with Memorial Day, which primarily honors the dead.
Many nations within the British Commonwealth and throughout Europe observe a similar occasion on November 11, Remembrance Day.
How to Commemorate Veterans Day
There are many ways to commemorate Veterans Day. You can attend a flag-raising ceremony or a Veterans Day parade. Some people have picnics to celebrate or attend programs put on by their community. You can get children involved by taking them to visit a veterans hospital, or encourage them to send a letter of thanks to a veteran. You can also check your local community calendar for event listings.
Here’s another resource: The Veterans Day National Committee, in addition to planning and coordinating the National Veterans Day Ceremony, supports a number of Veterans Day Regional Sites. These sites conduct Veterans Day celebrations that provide excellent examples for other communities to follow.

Kansas City Event Empowers Locals to Take Kandesn® to the Next Level
By Julie McLewee, Kandesn Sales Manager
I had the pleasure of conducting a Kandesn® event in Kansas City, Missouri, on October 30, which was hosted by Michelle Whitley Smith. The event was so much fun, and everyone had a great time and got information on which products were most suitable for their skin types.
One of the most interesting parts of the workshop was that we had quite a number of men in attendance and they were very interested in receiving information regarding Dr. Chen® Men’s Skin Care products.
We actually demonstrated how to use all of the Dr. Chen® Men’s Skin Care products on our handsome male model, Orlando, and this really got all the men in the room asking questions. Since many of the men in the room were African American and many of them had experienced razor bump and break out, we explained the benefits of using our Kandesn® Smooth Shave™. It contains soothing herbal extracts and emollients to soften the beard so that you can enjoy a smooth shave that does not irritate or dry the skin out. The unique lathering formulation also allows for an exceptionally close shave, which can help prevent ingrown hairs and razor nicks and cuts. This was a fun and informative way to share what we specifically have to offer men. Many of the ladies in the room thought the Dr. Chen® Skin Care products would make perfect gifts for their husband this holiday season.
The ladies got equal attention and we conducted a complete facial on our willing model at the front of the room, and everyone else got an opportunity to follow along with the help of the assistants. This was perfect, as many great questions arose from this segment, such as, “Should I use the Oi-Lin® Skin Care Set or the Kandesn® Gentle Skin Care Set?” We basically explained that the Oi-Lin® Skin Care Set was suitable for most skin types, but it’s especially beneficial for dry or sensitive skin. The Kandesn® Gentle Skin Care Set works perfectly on oilier and irritated skin, or blemish-prone skin. The herbal botanicals in the Kandesn® Gentle Cleanser leave the skin feeling cool, calm, and balanced.
The makeover segment is always a big hit—the women got excited and giddy when they got to try the new colors. I had bought along samples of some new colors for the “Women of Color” to get feedback from the ladies, and they were happy. The ladies looked beautiful and everyone had fun finding their perfect shade. Many of the new ladies were amazed to discover that Kandesn® Foundation was really good for their skin, and allowed it to breathe, and that it doesn’t clog pores.
Everyone loved finding out which Kandesn® Mini Color Compact would be perfect for them; we gave them tips on how to achieve the different looks: Natural, Classic, and Glamorous. The two new Kandesn® Moisturizing Lip Colors that were big hits were 0182 (a velvety shade of plum) and 1116 (an opalescent nude beige). Everyone also loved the Silver and Gold Lip Glosses; which some people like to use over lip color, while some like it just on its own!
Many of the attendees stated that they were inspired to conduct workshops in their own home to get the ball rolling and start making money. One lady said this was her very first event and that she was totally impressed with the skin care products, adding that she’d like to host a party of her own. This presented the opportunity for me to show her how she could join the company and move forward.
So all in all, our Kansas City Sunriders got empowered to take Kandesn® to the next level and gained more knowledge and instruction about how to start sharing Kandesn® with passion and confidence.
This was a fantastic group of people and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I spent with them. If you want help organizing an event or just have a question, please get in touch with me at Julie.McLewee@sunrider.com
Thank you!

Compelling Comment of the Day
Today's compelling comment focuses on the second principle of the Philosophy of Regeneration®. Read below for an interesting and thoughtful analogy you can apply to your understanding and teaching about our unique philosophy.
“Taking chemical protein powders and elaborate chemicals for muscle building is like taking prescription medication for an illness with multiple side effects that are more life threatening than the problem that you started with. Resist trying to take one step forward by risking the possibility of falling two steps back. Remember principle #2 of Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration®—foods, not chemicals. The body recognizes food for nutrition. There are no real shortcuts for your health.”

Tour Success! Drs. Chen Tour the USA and Provide Inspiration
On Oct. 18, Drs. Chen began their four-city 2010 USA Tour with meetings in Orlando, FL, Edina, MN, Phoenix, AZ, and Torrance, CA.
The Tour presented a unique opportunity for attendees to get up close to Drs. Chen and learn directly from them the Sunrider difference and what makes our products and business incomparable in the market. Dr. Chen shared new projects he’s working on, and Mrs. Chen discussed upcoming new product launches and gave samples to each excited audience.
Here’s what attendees had to say about the Tour:

Dr. Chen shared new projects he’s working on, and Mrs. Chen discussed upcoming new product launches and gave samples to each excited audience.
Here’s what attendees had to say about the Tour:
“The Chen meeting in Minneapolis proved to be dynamic. Dr. Tei-Fu Chen shared great information about Tei-Fu™ MetaShaper® and the value of resveratrol, as well as amazing skin care products to heal and renew the skin that are in the process of being developed. Dr. Oi-Lin Chen was very excited to share her new marketing program and business pack with the Business Leaders.” Gloria Englund, Richfield, MN
“The passion Dr. Chen exudes for his creation of new products that will benefit his family, and then all of us, is very evident and inspiring. And I appreciate their efforts to improve our [business] plan to the advantage of the business builders and new Sunriders, while also taking into consideration company profits and the world economic situation. I especially like the simplistic idea of the Fortune Delight® pack, as it covers all aspects of personal consumption, retailing products and sharing the product, along with building brand recognition. I am excited for the future of Sunrider and my personal business growth.” Sandy Besemman, Buffalo, MN
“It was fun to hear Dr. Chen talk about his latest thoughts on skin care. He is now working on a product…to smooth and relax deep skin wrinkles in a natural, non-toxic way. In addition, he is looking at the stem cells of apples and bitter melons to improve the texture of skin as an alternative to dangerous laser treatments which actually burn the skin as a means of tightening the collagen network. Mrs. Chen, radiant and young looking as his chief guinea pig, just glowed when she presented her new video, featuring “All My Children.” Well, who wouldn't glow with all these great new products?” Trish Powers, The Villages, FL
“We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time with Drs. Chen in Orlando…We don’t know of any other company where the president and CEO go out into the field to share their vision, integrity, and passion. Being able to hear both Dr. and Mrs. Chen speak, always gives us and our group great insight and excitement into Sunrider’s future. We are proud to be partners with this unique company!” Richard & Marlene Oliner, Orlando, FL
“I’ve been a loyal Sunrider for 10 years and never do I tire of hearing Dr. Chen share his extensive knowledge of herbs, chemistry, and biology…Sunrider is so different from anything else out there. The products are so advanced and cutting edge in the health food industry that it’s hard to imagine that they are based on 5,000 years of Chinese history…For those people who did not get to hear Dr. Chen…make sure you attend the 2011 Grand Convention to hear more of Dr. Chen and visit the incredible manufacturing plant…Until you use these products on a regular basis, you may never understand how great a value they are. Sunrider makes staying healthy easy and fun. I love my Sunrider lifestyle!” Jane Wakefield, Mesa, AZ
“The new Starter Pack that Mrs. Chen introduced makes sense to us. Things keep getting simpler with retail profits to leading with one product. There was excitement over the new Starter Pack with a consensus among those we talked to that simpler is better.” Robin & Myron Frame, San Diego, CAWith both Dr. and Mrs. Chen providing insight and inspiration, attendees left each meeting with renewed satisfaction and motivation. As the second tour the Chens embarked upon in 2010, the tour’s success again proves the power of Sunrider meetings and its exciting ability to motivate and educate.
Fashionable Fall Tips with Kandesn®

Two great aspects of Kandesn® Color Cosmetics are the diversity and the high-quality of our hues. These Kandesn® colors look stunning on all ethnicities, and always enhance your inner beauty.
Using Mini Compact #2 on both models, we created two very different looks—day and evening.
Foundation
Start with your favorite Kandesn® foundation. It creates a canvas for the other cosmetics to build upon.
Lips
We used Kandesn® 1106 Berry Red Lip Color on both models and finished the look with Kandesn® 192 Mixed Berry Lip Gloss.
Daytime Eyes
Here is a really simple technique that looks beautiful on most eye shapes.
- Step 1: Apply Kandesn® base eyeshadow to the entire eyelid, from the lashes to the arch of the brow.
- Step 2: Apply the contour shadow using the fluff brush. Blend the color into the lash line and then blend up with very light strokes, similar to the motion of windshield wipers. Stop the contour color just before the eye socket crease.
- Step 3: Apply Kandesn® 901 Black Eyeliner Pencil lightly into the lash line and finish with a touch of Kandesn® Lash Enhancer Mascara.
Evening Eyes
We used a more dramatic technique for the nighttime look, but it’s easy to master with a little patience and practice.
- Step 1: Apply Kandesn® base eyeshadow to the entire eyelid, from the lashes to the arch of the brow.
- Step 2: Apply the contour shadow using the angle brush (leading with the short end) in a downward motion along the lash line and stopping in the middle of the lid. Again using the short end of the angle brush, blend inwardly towards the upper part of the eye socket. As you can see from the photo you are creating a “V” lying on its side. Add the contour color and smudge it under the lower lashes.
- Step 3: Finish your dramatic nighttime look by blending the contour with the fluff brush and adding a touch more base color to highlight the lower lid just above the iris, and a hint just under the eyebrow.
- Step 4: Apply Kandesn® Liquid Eyeliner and Kandesn® Lash Enhancing Mascara to complete your look.

New Interactive Training Calls with John Teng Provide Great Results
I’m really excited to share some great news with all Sunrider IBOs. I recently had the opportunity to listen to a training call that John Teng, North American Sales Manager, has been offering IBOs throughout the country. The calls are a two-part series that shows you how to explain Sunrider in an engaging and concise way.
The first call is a 30-minute lecture with John reviewing the importance of knowing the four essential points of the Philosophy of Regeneration®. The second call is a one-hour workshop where each person who participated in the first call has an opportunity to polish their presentation. This interactive workshop allows you to practice your approaches in a controlled and supportive environment.
Many people have already taken advantage of this workshop series and have seen great results! We currently offer the workshops Monday through Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. PST. Please note that the last session we offer in a day (which begin at 5:00 p.m.) fills up first.
If you would like to receive additional information or reserve a time for you and your downline, please contact me directly. I can be reached by phone at (310) 222-9185 or by email at rick.ricardo@sunrider.com.
I hope to hear from you soon!

Here’s what Sunriders recently said about their training experience:
“I want to congratulate Sharon Breder. After being on the calls with John Teng for the two Fridays in October, and going to the meeting in Orlando, she has been practicing her 30-second speech with numerous people. She called me so excited because she has seven people who are interested in knowing more about Sunrider.
I'm going to go to her place this coming Friday and we are going to have an opportunity meeting both Friday night and Saturday morning. She is ready to talk with people because she wants to leave her job. The training really inspired her.” –Willo Uhl
“Yesterday I had a dentist appointment. As my dentist was checking my teeth, gums, glands under my tongue, etc., he kept saying, ‘amazing, excellent, very healthy.’ [I had] no cavities, no plaque, or problems of any kind.
[The dentist] left and the assistant continued to do her work. She asked me what I did and thanks to John's latest call with my group I was able to give her my 1-minute speech about Sunrider. She was very interested and I left her with the toothpaste product card.
I just received a call from the dentist who ordered 10 large toothpastes and 6 small ones. He said he has never been able to find a toothpaste without the sodium lauryl sulfate, fluoride, and sugar…He has asked me to put information in his office. What a door opener!”
