Stuck in a Workout Rut? Mix It Up!

Has your workout routine become too “routine”? Mine sure had! Every weekend I was running laps at a nearby high school track, like a hamster on a wheel, plodding along in terms of enthusiasm and results. A 45-minute workout seemed to take an eternity. Then I revitalized my regimen simply by using a little creativity.

I realized I could turn any track, park, or outdoor area into an outdoor gym—a venue offering endless ways to work out. And there are no membership fees or waiting to use equipment!

With this outlook, it was easy for me to ramp up my routine. By keeping the exercise segments brief and dynamic, my workouts never bog down into monotony; they stay fresh and challenging!

Here’s one example of how to break up a 45-minute workout into a fast-moving, calorie-blasting, stress-busting session:

1.    Jog a couple laps to warm up.
2.    Do incline push-ups using a railing or a fence.
3.    Run up bleacher stairs or any inclined area.
4.    Crunch out sit-ups on the grass.
5.    Do jumping-jacks, squats, or lunges.
6.    Alternate running backwards and sideways.
7.    Do 100-yard sprints.
8.    Bring a ball to dribble, kick, and juggle, soccer style.
9.    Cool down with stretching.

Please share the things you do to keep your workouts moving along!

PS: Stay tuned for a follow-up post about the physical benefits of mixing up your routine.

The Importance of Self-Manufacturing

Hello again, this is James Moore from the International Department at Sunrider. I have been recommending you frequently review Dr. Chen’s speeches, Business Updates, conference calls, etc., because no one understands the health and beauty industry quite like him. His pearls of wisdom are priceless. I’ve recently come across yet another gem that I would like to share with you about the importance of self-manufacturing:

Self-Manufacturing
“We are a unique company because we have our own state-of-the-art manufacturing. State-of-the-art manufacturing makes our products have an extremely high value. We clean, extract, and concentrate many pounds of herbs to make a finished product. We are not just selling products at a high price; we sell our products at a reasonable price and at a fantastic value.

“Right now, many companies focus on antioxidants. However, during processing and pasteurization, their products often lose most of the antioxidants and nutrients. This is why we need extraction and concentration, and why I developed my trade-secret process. Despite the complexity and cost, I know our state-of-the-art manufacturing is the only way to ensure the effectiveness, quality, and high-nutrient contents of our products.

“If you don’t self-manufacture, it means your products are not exclusive. They can be sold to anyone else. Right now, you can find acai, noni, and mangosteen juices everywhere. It’s not unique. Second, you cannot control the quality. You don’t know what they’re doing to your products. How do they clean the herbs? Do they just grind the herbs up with dirt, insects, and feces?

“When you buy products from someone else, you want to buy the products cheap, but the seller/manufacturer wants to make a big profit. How can you satisfy two hungry wolves? These opposing forces usually mean a sacrifice in quality where one gallon turns into 10 gallons. It’s very, very hard to get a quality product if you don’t manufacture it yourself. Sunrider controls everything from start to finish so our products have unique formulas and the highest quality.”

Too Many Vitamins Can Overload & Unbalance the Body

A recent Los Angeles Times article reported how problems can result from ingesting too many vitamins and supplements. The article, entitled “Foods fortified with extra vitamins could prove costly,” describes how many so-called energy bars, fortified juices, and other supplement products are loaded with mega-doses of vitamins—in amounts that greatly exceed recommended daily values. The article provides examples of how vitamin over-consumption—in addition to being a waste of money—has little benefit, and how over-consumption of certain vitamins can actually harm the body.

The information in the article dovetails with Dr. Chen’s Philosophy of Regeneration™—the blueprint behind all Sunrider® products. This philosophy advocates nourishing and cleansing the body to keep it in balance and performing at its best. Sunrider has a complete, holistic approach to achieving and maintaining good health. We should eat a variety of wholesome, fresh foods. When we eat properly, vitamin pills become unnecessary.

Dr. Chen admits that he could easily make synthetic protein powders, juices, and vitamin pills, but he doesn’t, because “at their best, they don’t benefit your health, and at worst, they cause damage.”

Sunrider is not about trying to treat illnesses or jumping on the latest “me-too” fad formula. As Dr. Chen says, “Developed societies currently have excess in their diets—too much protein, sugar, and fat, even too many vitamins. The last thing our body needs are traditional supplements with MORE protein, sugar, and vitamins. It creates a heavy load for your body to handle.”

We don’t put overly high doses of any one nutrient in any of our products. You can’t “fix” a health problem by taking a pill or taking a “super supplement.” Too much of any one ingredient can overload and unbalance the body. Our products are designed to nourish and cleanse the entire body, bringing it into balance. For example, the products in the SunPack® provide a foundation for optimal health: NuPlus® fills in nutritional gaps with micronutrients; Calli® contains antioxidants that assist the body’s natural cleansing process; and Quinary® balances the body’s five systems.*

In summary, our body is designed to digest foods, not chemicals. We need to eat a variety of foods with proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, etc., to thrive. When you isolate a protein or vitamin, it’s no longer a food, but a chemical that our body has a hard time digesting. Sunrider’s trade secret process preserves nutrients in their food form for easier digestion and better absorption.

The “Sunrider Brainstorm List” from the 2009 Grand Convention IBO Training Workshop

For those of you who attended Thursday morning’s IBO Training Workshop with featured speakers Mack Atkinson, Sandra Besemann, May Yee, and yours truly, you will remember that we created a brainstorm list of ideas from our audience regarding how to answer the question “What is Sunrider?” Several of you have asked that I reproduce this list, so I am posting it below so you can review it and consider ways to share similar ideas when answering this very important question!

What is Sunrider?

1. Sunrider helps give me a great way to eat myself to life.
2. Sunrider pays me to eat and talk.
3. Sunrider helps me to replace people’s products and to listen to their needs.
4. Sunrider® foods are helping me to reinvent my body.
5. Sunrider allows people to make money as they learn how to eat properly.
6. Sunrider provides me with the best foods on the planet.
7. Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration™ helps me to live longer and stronger.
8. Sunrider helps me shop smarter.
9. Sunrider makes healthy fast-food.

There you have it, and I hope that these ideas from your peers will help you consider your own unique way to sincerely and easily share your enthusiasm for “Health and Wealth” and Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration™ with the 99.9% of North America still waiting to hear about us for the very first time!

What Sunriders Are Saying about Grand Convention

Sunrider's 2009 Grand Convention ended nearly two weeks now, but we’re still feeling the excitement as testimonials and notes of thanks and encouragement continue to pour in! We thought it’d be nice to share a few of these with you, so please read below and enjoy. We hope they make you feel as content and satisfied as they do us!

Susan and Ray Glend said:
John, we had such an exciting time at convention; you were not kidding when you said this would be the best convention ever! We learned so much at this convention. Thank you and everyone there for all the hard work in making it so special for all of us.
Juan Flores said:
It was a pleasure to be in the teleconference this afternoon. As always, I hope I can help someone in the line prosper and make this easier for them, so we can all benefit from the branding we are giving to Sunrider.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, and through you thank Dr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, Wendy, Sunny, and everyone else for the exaggerated success the Grand Convention was at the Anaheim Convention Center. Everyone is so excited and happy about the next convention because of what they learned from this convention that even some of our recent consumers talked about going to next year’s convention if it is so much of a fun learning experience.

Let me tell you, people are very happy with this year’s convention. The way it was set up was great— from the pick-up area, to the order process, to food, and the halls where the workshops were held, the tours of the Manufacturing Plant. Everything about the Philosophy of Regeneration™ and how it can help people from all walks of life achieve optimal health so they can at last feel good and look even better by using the “NCB formula”…through our exclusive line of products from the Sunergy® foods to the Kandesn® and Oi-Lin® skin care lines, and more…

Please express my most sincere gratitude to the Chen Family for making this a spectacular event full of learning, excitement, and fun.

Again, thank you and best regards.

Your friend,

Juan Flores
Ray and Tricia Holder said:
Dear John and Wendy,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for what we consider possibly the best Sunrider convention since 1994 (the first one I attended). China was great as well.

What made it so great? The seminars were wonderful with people speaking from the heart. The size (just under 1,500) was excellent—no long lines, especially in the woman's bathroom where most Sunrider ladies congregate. We loved the game show, John. One of our brand new VIPs that attended was so impressed with your family sharing what has happened to them in the past year. She is impressed with longevity and stability, and she saw that Sunrider is going to be here for a looooong time. It’s always one of our favorite parts of the week as well. We’ve watched the Chen “children” grow up over the past 20 years and feel that you are very much a part of our extended family.

We loved that Dr. Chen is back to talking about product. This is what inspired us 20 years ago and created our whole group. We have been doing Product Fairs since day one and have always found them very effective. We have to add that only three Canadians received Dr. Chen’s award—ourselves and two of our distributors—so it was extra special for us this year.

Whoever recommended the Fab 4 for entertainment was brilliant! Everyone around us was singing and dancing in the aisles. Amazing, amazing, amazing! It did show us, however, that we definitely need to start bringing younger people into the company. It’s scary that almost everyone there knew the words to the songs. You pretty much need to be over 50 to do that.

Speaking of younger people, our 23 year old son, Michael, has agreed to start building a Sunrider business if Dr. Chen can bring his hot sauce into Canada in gallon jugs. Michael is a connoisseur of hot sauce and said it was the best he ever tasted.

Wishing you and the whole family all the best,

Ray and Tricia Holder,
Group Business Leaders
It’s always very encouraging and uplifting to receive kind words and thoughts, so please feel free to send us your own! We look forward to spending another Grand Convention with you soon!

Tours, Tours, Tours---Grand Convention Style!

Grand Convention
week is officially in full swing and exciting Sunrider activities are taking place all around southern California! There are meetings, workshops, dinners, and parties taking place in Anaheim, and the Headquarters and LA Manufacturing Plants tours in Torrance. Sunriders are everywhere this week! How fun!

On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, bus loads of Sunriders from around the world poured into World Headquarters and the LA Plants to experience the quality, history, and magnitude of our state-of-the-art facilities.

During tours of the LA Manufacturing Plants, attendees were led through Sunrider’s manufacturing and production areas and witnessed first-hand our impressive facilities. Our ability and commitment to self manufacturing helps Sunrider stand out from the competition! Sunriders also had a tasty box lunch complete with two SunBars and enjoyed the camaraderie of their fellow group members!
Once at Headquarters, Sunriders were greeted by helpful corporate staff members who showed them our beautiful office building, Botanical Gardens, and the extraordinary Chen Art Gallery. After the sightseeing stroll, Sunriders were free to peruse the Promotional Area where select items were available for purchase.

Finally, after a thorough tour of the Sunrider building, buses were loaded and Sunriders went back to beautiful Anaheim to continue their 2009 Grand Convention experience!

Sunrider Regional Meetings held in Newark, NJ, and Minneapolis, MN, June 2009

For audiences in Newark, NJ, and Minneapolis, MN, who came expecting to learn more about Sunrider® products, Dr. Chen “fire-hosed” them with non-stop product information for 90 minutes—to the point that some in the company for less than 10 years were probably looking to their left and right to make sure they were really at a Sunrider meeting! In other words, Dr. Chen delivered product information in a very big way. He started by explaining the strategy of conventional medicinal wisdom to cure diseases and the resulting implications of potentially creating harmful side effects and imbalances.

The audience was then prepared for Dr. Chen to explain his revolutionary Philosophy of Regeneration™, wherein he made it clear that he personally has no interest in curing high blood pressure or high blood sugar, but rather he wants to provide the highest quality foods so that your body can find its own harmonious balance and take care of itself. That’s powerful! Backed with an hour long Product Fair in each city, each audience was hit with a convincing one-two punch combination, clearly showing why Sunrider is “Simply the Best™!"

Newark, NJ

We had to start the meeting late because our flight was delayed due to weather and heavy air traffic. By the time I arrived at the ballroom to help prepare the final setup details, half the room was already filled with excited Sunriders and their guests. Once we were full speed, the room filled to capacity with 400 people! Dr. Chen delivered a spectacular 90-minute message about his Philosophy of Regeneration™ and even conducted some convincing on-stage product demonstrations to the audience’s delight. It had been almost a decade since Dr. and Mrs. Chen last held a meeting on the East Coast, so everyone was extremely grateful they found time in their very busy schedules to remind East Coast Sunriders how much they love them!

Once Dr. Chen finished his remarks, the audience raced to the back of the room where local leaders conducted a 60-minute Product Fair of tasting and testing many of Sunrider’s most popular products. One of the more unusual experiences from this Product Fair was when Mrs. Chen turned her back to a large table of display-only products on the stage. Someone then came up from behind her and swept one arm across the entire demonstration table and walked away with everything! Skin care, herbs, and new arrivals, all gone in the blink of an eye! The funniest part about this heist was that the person walked off with a demo tube of Sunsmile® Herbal Toothpaste, and left behind the store bought toothpastes we used to convince the audience of the Sunrider difference. Ah…now there is a thief with impeccable taste! A person who understands the high value of Sunrider® foods in comparison to all of the paltry alternatives available on the market. I am impressed…but I still want my foods back. If you have any news about the “sticky fingers” that walked away with the entire Newark Product Fair, please give me a holler!

Minneapolis, MN
Okay, so then we were on our way to Minneapolis “empty handed.” A couple of phone calls to Sunrider Headquarters and to Minneapolis and we were back in business. Our wonderful Minnesota Sunriders came through and provided their own personal stocks to supply the demonstration items needed for the next Product Fair. For that, I want to publicly give all of them my personal thanks for reminding me that we are all in this together, to help each other as a family—a Sunrider family. Thank you! The more times I visit the wonderful city of Minneapolis the more I like it!

The Sunrider meeting was held in a beautiful conference room on the 50th floor of a skyscraper in the downtown area. Even with moderate visibility through the clouds I stood beside, the view still was breathtaking. Dr. Chen let them have it for another 90-minutes, and he shared product information that even I had never heard. One of the neatest things I learned about Dr. Chen during this meeting was that in the beginning, he made the foods with the intention that he was going to be the only person eating them. But people started asking him to share his food, and he just gave it away. The problem was that it got to the point where so many people wanted to “eat his lunch” that he would have nothing left for himself. That’s when someone suggested he could make money selling the products, and the rest is history. Dr. Chen still makes the foods for himself with the intention that his children and grandchildren eat them, and that gives Sunriders the highest level of confidence in knowing that if Dr. Chen’s own family uses the foods then they have to be the best.

Would you be surprised if I told you Mrs. Chen showed up an hour early to the Minneapolis meeting to vigilantly watch over the large table of display-only products like a hawk? I feared for anyone during this Product Fair who may have thought to try and pull the wool over her eyes again. And did you know that Mrs. Chen first met Dr. Chen in a Judo class in college?

One IBO excitedly pulled me aside after the meeting and said something to the effect of, “Wow, this was just amazing! When are we going to do this again?” After which I replied, “Next week, and it’s going to be at your house.” I am reminded of the oft-quoted parable of the fish. Dr. and Mrs. Chen race from city to city and country to country like most people drive down the street to work. Still to this day, I have never met anyone who works as hard as these two do. Sunrider® foods make it possible to live such a rigorous lifestyle, but there is a physical limit to how many places they can be at the same time. I hope you understand that Dr. Chen is trying to teach you how to fish so you can be filled—and not just for a day, but for a lifetime. If you felt like you learned a lot in those 90-minutes, then imagine what you will take home with you when you spend a week with Sunrider at the Grand Convention July 20-25 in Anaheim, CA! The deadline is July 1, so you still have time to register. The best advice I can give those planning on being there is to come with a reliable writing pen, a whole lot of paper, and get ready to learn from a genius on how you can simply and easily share the Philosophy of Regeneration™ with the 99% of North America still waiting for someone to tell them about Sunrider for the very first time. See you at convention!

Conference Call Psyches Sunriders for Grand Convention

Grand Convention is on its way, and we’re pumped about spreading the word! That’s why we rounded up our head honchos, Drs. Chen, and some of our best and brightest Business Leaders to join a conference call on Tuesday, May 26. The idea was to give convention activities their due props and support, and that goal was definitely accomplished!

Silver Master Business Leader Julie Herring led the call with ease and enthusiasm as she thoughtfully and effectively communicated with all participants and to all listeners.

Sunny Beutler, Director of Regional Operations, and Mrs. Chen started the call by sharing the Grand Convention schedule and the many opportunities it presents to grow, learn, and have fun with other successful Sunriders and Drs. Chen.

Business Leaders Don Caster, Bob Goshen, and Glenda Feilen talked about the Leadership Workshops and honing your leadership skills—a must for any Sunrider who’s serious about growing their business!

Next, Sharyn Wynters and Sheryl Fitzharris spoke with passion about the Kandesn® Workshop and the advancement of the Kandesn® product line. As an innovative and specialized skin care line, Sharyn said it’s a “sleeping giant” that needs to be awakened! And Sheryl added that the Kandesn® products make her look 20 years younger!

IBO Training was next in the line-up as Mack Atkinson and Jonathan Sugai lent their thoughts about this training’s importance. Mack said new IBOs commonly encounter the feeling of not knowing what to say, but that “the IBO Training addresses that issue,” and newbies will leave with confidence and fortitude.

After a long sabbatical, the Product Fair has returned to Sunrider and has been embraced by veteran and rookie Sunriders alike. J.W. Emerson, Nancy Donahue, and Sandy Besemann all agreed that the Product Fair helps people get better acquainted with Sunrider® products and is important in exhibiting the products’ unique attributes.

And even though Dr. Chen was thousands of miles away in Korea, he pried himself away from his work and hopped on the call, too! Listeners heard directly from Sunrider’s founder and chairman of the board about our powerful and dynamic products.

Thanks Drs. Chen and contributing IBOs; this motivating and energizing call boosted convention buzz and got listeners psyched for July!

Don’t forget to sign-up before the July 1 deadline…visit convention.sunrider.com and get on-board!
