New review of Sunrider Resume Training with John Teng

Kristy Kurtz in Canada wrote:

“Just want to let you know how much we appreciate the training call John is doing with us in regards to writing our Sunrider resume. I have to admit I am still working on mine! I have been doing some tradeshows lately and can really see the value in having a 30-60 second resume, because at these shows you have a very limited amount of time to talk to someone and get their attention.

As a stay-at-home mother with two small boys in activities and things, I get asked a lot what I do, but often I stumble for the words because I just don't know where to start!”

New Interactive Training Calls with John Teng Provide Great Results

I’m really excited to share some great news with all Sunrider IBOs. I recently had the opportunity to listen to a training call that John Teng, North American Sales Manager, has been offering IBOs throughout the country. The calls are a two-part series that shows you how to explain Sunrider in an engaging and concise way.

The first call is a 30-minute lecture with John reviewing the importance of knowing the four essential points of the Philosophy of Regeneration®. The second call is a one-hour workshop where each person who participated in the first call has an opportunity to polish their presentation. This interactive workshop allows you to practice your approaches in a controlled and supportive environment.

Many people have already taken advantage of this workshop series and have seen great results! We currently offer the workshops Monday through Friday between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. PST.  Please note that the last session we offer in a day (which begin at 5:00 p.m.) fills up first.

If you would like to receive additional information or reserve a time for you and your downline, please contact me directly. I can be reached by phone at (310) 222-9185 or by email at  rick.ricardo@sunrider.com.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Regional Sales, Sunrider International

Here’s what Sunriders recently said about their training experience:

“I want to congratulate Sharon Breder. After being on the calls with John Teng for the two Fridays in October, and going to the meeting in Orlando, she has been practicing her 30-second speech with numerous people. She called me so excited because she has seven people who are interested in knowing more about Sunrider.

I'm going to go to her place this coming Friday and we are going to have an opportunity meeting both Friday night and Saturday morning. She is ready to talk with people because she wants to leave her job. The training really inspired her.” –Willo Uhl

“Yesterday I had a dentist appointment. As my dentist was checking my teeth, gums, glands under my tongue, etc., he kept saying, ‘amazing, excellent, very healthy.’ [I had] no cavities, no plaque, or problems of any kind.

[The dentist] left and the assistant continued to do her work. She asked me what I did and thanks to John's latest call with my group I was able to give her my 1-minute speech about Sunrider. She was very interested and I left her with the toothpaste product card.

I just received a call from the dentist who ordered 10 large toothpastes and 6 small ones. He said he has never been able to find a toothpaste without the sodium lauryl sulfate, fluoride, and sugar…He has asked me to put information in his office. What a door opener!”

Product Fair and Opportunity Meeting Featuring John Teng in Canada

A special Sunrider® Product Fair and Opportunity Meeting featuring John Teng, North American Sales Manager, was held in Winnipeg (Sep. 28), Regina (Sep. 29) and Vancouver (Sep. 30). Over 200 people attended and witnessed the Sunrider difference. Attendees at the Vancouver meeting had a special surprise as they entered the newly renovated Sunrider Canada Office.

The Opportunity Meeting featuring John Teng unveiled the newly revamped IBO Opportunity Presentation, which focuses on Sunrider’s solution of balance for wellness and income potential. The participants were captivated by John’s unique, motivational yet simple way of conveying the presentation, and many said time flew by without their realizing it.

Several leaders shared Sunrider success stories and the impact it’s had on their life. The evening concluded with special recognition of several newly qualified Business Leaders. Sunriders left the meetings feeling inspired, energized, well informed, and ready to share the Sunrider Opportunity.

Here are some of the comments from Sunriders:

“It was a pleasure and honour to have John Teng come to Winnipeg. John presented the Sunrider IBO Opportunity Presentation with gusto. The response to last night's meeting has been very positive and we do want John Teng to come back to Manitoba.” Gail Holder, Winnipeg

“John was simply excellent in presenting the new Sunrider IBO Opportunity Presentation. People that I asked had very positive comments about the evening. He is very skilled in his delivery of information.” Diane Haryett, Regina

“The meeting sure stroked the fire in everyone. I've had many emails from my group and new people (Tim and I had 10 new people there) and they loved the presentation and really understood that Sunrider is set apart from other companies by many important factors and most of all because of our Philosophy of Regeneration®.” Sheryl Fitzharris,Vancouver

New IBO Presentation Excites Sunriders

North American Sales Manager John Teng recently visited Missoula, MT, and Salt Lake City, UT, to hold Sunrider meetings utilizing the revamped IBO Presentation. The presentation, which was debuted on September 9 and is now live on the Training Website, focuses on problems facing Americans today and explains Sunrider’s solution to a balanced body and balanced budget.

Those who came to the meetings had the opportunity to see John use the presentation and learn how to incorporate it into their own Sunrider events.

With overwhelmingly positive reviews from both cities, we thought we’d share some of the presentation praise.

From Missoula:
“Everyone really enjoyed both the Product Fair and the all-new presentation with the focus on the Philosophy of Regeneration®…The new presentation clearly speaks to the potential Customer and how Sunrider can address every need in our life.” Nancy Donahue

“During the almost 20 years in Sunrider, we have realized several of our ‘hearts desires’ in some of the most delightful ways, including sharing [Sunrider] and helping people improve their health, and, if they chose, their financial situation.” Denny Guenzler

“Thanks, John, for visiting us once again in Missoula, MT! The Wednesday evening Opportunity Meeting and Product Fair were enjoyable for all. People enjoyed tasting NuPuffs®, SunBars, and VitaShake® smoothies, as well as seeing SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse, Kandesn®, and SunBreeze® demonstrations. People always enjoy tasting and seeing Sunrider’s wonderful products. Randy and I certainly enjoyed seeing the new IBO presentation. It is a nice balance between product, business, and Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration®. Thanks to the team that worked so hard to put this together. I hope many Sunriders use this new tool; it is easy and very self explanatory.” Marsha & Randy Turner

“John's sincere desire for our achievement and for our input and ideas was felt as he shared the new presentation with us…I and others from my group are refreshed to see a presentation that really points out what Sunrider offers in a well-rounded way. The new IBO Presentation simply shares what makes Sunrider's products so significantly superior and it presents how easy Sunrider's business is to achieve by simply and consistently sharing. I like how various topics (with nice hints of humor) in the presentation show common concerns that easily make great conversation pieces for sharing Sunrider with friends and acquaintances…I look forward to sharing this presentation and seeing how many others will enjoy being able to share with others too. It really opens the door to share the best.” Kezia Coon

From Salt Lake City:
“Congratulations must go to John Teng who joined us in Salt Lake City last evening and presented a lively and invigorating presentation to an enthusiastic and excellent crowd…The room was full to capacity with many people having traveled many miles to attend. We are still getting phone calls from Sunriders telling us they were so pleased with John's presentation, exclaiming that it was the best they had ever heard on Sunrider business…The good part of watching John present was now we have the live presentation in mind which is very empowering as we duplicate this ourselves, having seen a professional do it.” May Mortensen

“We traveled from Rigby, ID, which is about three and one half hours each way, to hear John give us the new IBO Presentation… I believe that Sunrider provides, without question, the SAFEST and BEST products available in the world today and provides an outstanding business opportunity in a down economy. We are excited about the reduced prices and the simplified marketing plan which should make it easy for anyone to share. We have developed a new motto: If you want to live the good life with a balanced body and a balanced budget, and want everyone else to enjoy it also, then share SUNRIDER with everyone.”
Rilla Spaulding

"I have always believed that people buy on emotion and then justify that purchase on the supporting facts.  This presentation helps people connect their needs, wants, or problems with Sunrider’s solutions…and then gives the facts as to why it is a good decision. Great presentation. Having a simple presentation that everyone can give or have access to just makes building business that much easier and duplicable." Paul Jensen

Get your hands on the new IBO Presentation and see for yourself what the rave reviews are all about! You can find it online at Sunrider’s one-stop resource shop—the Training Website.

A Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge Round-Up With John Teng

On Saturday, August 8, 2009, I competed in my second Navy SEAL Fitness Challenge which was located in Seattle, WA. You may recall that my first experience with this amazing competition took place in Phoenix, AZ on March 14, 2009. So here is a performance comparison of these last two competitions:

Event: 500 Yard Swim
Notes: Breast stroke/side stroke
March 14th: 10 minutes
August 8th: 9 minutes
Results: 10% Faster

Event:
Push-ups
Notes: Consecutive in 2 minutes
March 14th: 90
August 8th: 105
Results: 17% Stronger

Event: Sit-ups
Notes: Consecutive in 2 minutes
March 14th: 47
August 8th: 74
Results: 57% Stronger

Event: Pull-ups
Notes: Consecutive no time limit
March 14th: 12
August 8th: 15
Results: 25% Stronger

Event: 1.5 Mile Run
Notes: Terrain varies by event
March 14th: 11:03
August 8th: 12:22
Results: 12% Slower *

* Compared to the Phoenix event on March 14, 2009, I drastically improved in four out of the five events in Seattle, WA. My swim time, push-ups, and pull-ups met SEALs competitive standards, and my sit ups met minimum standards. While the Los Angeles event at UCLA in 2008 appears to have provided a true rubber track for the running event, the track in Phoenix was a flat grass field, and the track for Seattle was a pot-holed grass field with a loose gravel path and a wooded hill portion! Expressing my frustration to Wendy that I had to complete the run in Seattle on a loose gravel hill, Wendy reminded me that in a real mission situation, Navy SEALs probably rarely face working environments better than what they had anticipated, so they have to be conditioned and ready for any surprises. Essentially what she said was “suck it up” and start training on hills so that if they make you run on a desert sand dune next time, you will have enough endurance to attain competitive level marks in all five events and collect the famed blue shirt! Sounds good to me!
For those of you interested in participating and/or competing in events that require high strength and high endurance, here is my “minimum list” of Sunrider® products I would recommend you take/use every day:

VitaShake®
NuPlus®
SunBar®
Fortune Delight®
Calli® Herbal Tea
Dr. Chen™ MetaBooster®
Tei-Fu™ MetaShaper®
Sunrise®
Electrosport®
SunBreeze® Oil

Please refer to the recommendations on the product labels for information on how to best utilize the power of these amazing products, and stay tuned for more of my training regimen updates as I prepare for my next competition using the best foods on the planet made by Sunrider!

To all of my motivated Sunriders out there, let me leave you with a cherished quote I keep in my personal dreams and goals book as follows: “If you’re physically strong that makes you mentally strong. If you’re mentally strong you can do anything.” -David Goggins, Petty Officer First Class, Navy SEAL Navy Athlete; Ultra Runner

Bodybuilding and Building Sunriders

I love to workout. I can’t imagine a life where I could not get to the gym on a regular basis to keep in shape. Working out to me is almost as important as breathing oxygen! A few years ago I decided that I wanted to compete in amateur bodybuilding so I hired a personal trainer who had experience competing in the sport himself. I made it clear from the beginning that my goal was to use the competition as a fun way to improve my health, but that I was not willing to resort to harmful drugs to enhance my performance. From the beginning, I understood the importance of having a personal trainer. With the added time commitments I now have with helping my wife raise our young children, the only hour that I have been able to consistently find available to exercise is 6:00 am. That means preparing my business suit and toiletries the night before in order to be in bed by 10:30 pm, so that I have enough energy to get up at 5:30 am, throw everything in my car, and be in the gym on time to start at 6:00 am! The first thing my trainer would ask me to do in the morning was to check my weight and measure my body fat percentage. These measurements gave both of us a report on my progress as I advanced towards the date of the competition. If the numbers didn’t look good, I knew that I had to make some adjustments in my exercise plan, my food intake, or both to get back on track. This regular habit of “accountability” helped keep me focused and aware of my progress at all times.

I gained an entirely new level of appreciation for my Sunrider® foods and supplements as I trained for my first competition. I had to eat the healthiest food possible to have the energy necessary to workout at a high intensity. And I also needed a high-nutritional food source that didn’t include artificial ingredients and empty calories that would prevent me from achieving the lean muscle mass necessary to pose on stage!

Staying motivated and focused for the 6 months leading up to the date of the competition was not always easy. Sometimes my kids didn’t want to sleep when I wanted them to, so that meant no one got to sleep. Maybe a project at work required long hours in the office in order to complete it on time. Time zone changes and unfamiliar hotel rooms during my many business trips also tended to disrupt my regular routine. But no matter where I was or what the challenge, I always knew that when I got back to the gym my trainer was going to be waiting there for me to get back on the scale to check my weight and my body fat percentages and to hold me accountable for my progress! With that type of accountability, I was almost willing to do pull-ups from the hotel shower curtain rods if necessary to workout when I was on a business trip! My personal trainer also provided me with valuable encouragement when I felt discouraged with the pace of my progress. Because I knew that my trainer sincerely wanted me to be successful and that he was available to do whatever he could to help me win the show, I can tell you that part of the motivation that I had to be successful was to honor my helpful trainer.

The principles of preparing for a bodybuilding show also apply to Sunrider leaders and their downlines who are building their Sunrider businesses. When an IBO sponsors a new person into their organization, the IBO becomes a mentor to that new downline and this new relationship should entail a frank discussion at the very beginning to outline the expectations each person has for each other. A successful mentor will help their new downline identify meaningful goals and will then recommend a strategy to accomplish them. Since life gets in the way for even the best of us, regular follow-up will be required to keep the downline motivated and focused. Words of encouragement may be necessary on occasion to remind the downline that even the most successful IBOs face difficulties in reaching their current levels of success. If you do not feel that you are prepared to fill that roll as a mentor to your new downline then your job is to introduce him or her to the next person in your upline who is! There is a higher likelihood for success when an enthusiastic new Sunrider downline is matched up with an experienced and caring Sunrider mentor.

The new downline would also do well to honestly answer the following questions: Are you teachable? Do you have a relationship of trust with your new upline? Are you willing to follow through with the commitments that you and your mentor mutually agreed to from the beginning? Do you understand the VALUE of Sunrider® products? Are you willing to share what you love about Sunrider with other people? Most of these questions entail some degree of action on the part of the new downline. In terms of preparing for my first bodybuilding competition I knew that I was given all the tools to reach my goals. My trainer was experienced and he wanted me to succeed, and I had Sunrider® foods and supplements to give me the proper nutrition my body needed to perform my best. But with everyone rooting for me and having all the tools to work with, I still had to make a personal commitment to get out of bed every day, drive down the street before daybreak, work hard, eat right, stay motivated, and face the fear of standing on a stage in a bathing suit in front of hundreds of strangers! I still had to do my part or nothing else mattered!

Sunrider International is here to support successful mentor/downline relationships by providing them with a multimillion-dollar investment in manufacturing plants that produce the best products on the planet, the best compensation plan in our industry, a stable 28 year-old and family-owned company, and an increasingly comprehensive suite of training and marketing tools to help both mentors and new downlines quickly gain the skills they need to reach out to the 99% of North America still waiting to hear about the amazing “health and wealth” opportunities of Sunrider International for the very first time.

I Win Because I Fail

Many of you already know that I’m a very goal-oriented person. I know what I want in life, but I’m also “man enough” to admit that I’m not necessarily the fastest, strongest, or the smartest person that I know. One special personal trait I do highly value however is my willingness to persevere through difficulties in order to achieve my goals in life—I just don’t stop until I “hit my target.” I have to admit that most of the time my goals take longer than I anticipate, which may be the result of my overly optimistic attitude, but this same trait has also been one of my best saving graces in times of my toughest personal trials. Inside my 3-inch thick dream book that is categorized into 11 different aspects of my life, I have included the following quote: “Beyond talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck—but most of all, endurance.” [1] When I was in high school, a math teacher one day asked me what I wanted to study in college, and I said “engineering.” Her response to my answer will be eternally etched into my memory. She looked at the ceiling and with an exasperated voice said “heaven help us!” What was so surprising, even to me, was how I reacted to her comment. It was at that moment that I knew that I was going to be an engineer. Someone had just told me that I did not have the capacity to do something and, for good or for bad, I could not allow that person to impose a limitation on my success in life. After countless prayers offered to help me endure through some seemingly insurmountable personal struggles and failures, combined with a very determined and disciplined work ethic, I eventually earned a masters degree in Civil Engineering and then passed a very rigorous 13-hour long California Engineering Licensure Examination.

Like me, you too, may face people in your personal life who decide to impose limitations on your potential for one silly reason or another: You’re not this, you’re not that, you don’t have this and you don’t have that. Fortunately, I am smart enough to distinguish when someone is trying to give me sincere advice, directed towards my best well-being, and those who derive no other pleasure than to see me fail in order to justify their own self-imposed shortcomings. In my personal life, l make it a point to avoid such dark personalities no less vigilantly than one would run away from the plague. I do this because I am a winner and I want to maintain an environment as much as possible where I am around other winners who inspire me to be better.

Disclaimer: I am not a winner because I was born one, but because I do not accept to be anything but one. And I believe that I am the only person who has control over that designation. Of course, if I were to judge my “success” based on a short-term perspective, yes, I have been designated “second place,” “third place,” and a countless number of “no places” for as long as I can remember. So fortunately, that is not how I judge my success. My success has always been based on identifying the specific things in life that motivate me, that inspire me, and that make me happy. I then clearly write these things on paper and/or cut out pictures that help me clearly visualize what my “targets” are. I keep everything in a three-ring binder to view regularly, and I’m regularly adding items that inspire me, and I also subtract items that no longer motivate me. I have found the following principle to be a good rule of thumb for choosing my targets: images and statements only get to stay in my dream book if they continue to inspire me to spend energy necessary to achieve the desired result. But please do not misunderstand. I understand that the day-to-day implementation of realizing most, if not all of my goals requires hard, consistent, and persistent effort to achieve. And I believe that anyone who thinks or tells you otherwise, about any aspect of life’s most meaningful achievements, is either lying to you or is living in a fantasy world. And the more lofty the success, the harder you will have to work to attain it. A mountain climber who endeavors to reach a difficult summit—if and when he makes it to the top—arrives at the top sweating, bruised, and fatigued from the long climb, but the breathtaking view at the summit replaces all the fatigue with the sheer exhilaration of accomplishing the task. That’s the reward for hitting the target!

In terms of that portion of your life that you devote to Sunrider, I would like to recommend that you regularly remind yourself about those things you love about being here. Has your life improved by virtue of using Sunrider® foods? Do you appreciate Dr. Chen’s multimillion dollar manufacturing investment to realize the full power of the Philosophy of Regeneration™? Do you look better? Have you made meaningful friends here? Have you improved your financial well-being in proportion to the actual time that you are investing in your Sunrider business on a day-to-day basis (do the math and you may be delightfully surprised just how much money you are making per hour in Sunrider)?* Your reason(s) for being here are not necessarily the reasons another IBO joined, but you need to define them clearly and review them regularly in order to weather the storms of everyday life. “Life” is going to get in the way; but then again that’s just life. Your personal decision to stay focused and stay motivated despite the inevitable failures and disappointments that all successful people must face will make you the winner in the end. And the bigger the winner you want to be, the tougher the disappointments and failures you must be willing to experience. I have devoted an entire section of my personal library to learning about the mental toughness of an elite military Special Forces unit called the Navy SEALs. Prospective SEALs must arguably endure the toughest physical, mental, psychological, and academic military screening program in the world in order to join this small elite community of warriors. Today there are only about 3,000 active SEALS operating in the entire world. From what I have learned so far, I have come to the conclusion that those few individuals who make it through this rigorous training program each had to make a personal commitment to persevere through disappointment and difficulty to the very end, no matter what obstacle or challenge was thrown in front of them. And that’s the true mark of a winner.

In conclusion, you will win only if you are willing to fail. Keep your eyes on your targets, despite “life” inevitably getting in your way. Resolve yourself to do this, and you will realize every meaningful dream and aspiration that you set out for yourself and for your loved ones.

Navy Seals Fitness Challenge

On March 14, 2009 I participated in the Navy SEALs Fitness Challenge held on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. These types of events are open to the general public as a gesture of community outreach to make people more aware of the importance of physical fitness by comparing their performances to the minimum fitness requirements required to enter the SEAL training program (BUD/S). These exciting events are a win-win situation for all involved. The Navy gets an opportunity to make the public aware of many different types of employment opportunities that they offer, and the general public gets the chance to interact with active SEALs and to compete in an event that measures how physically prepared they are in comparison to a person applying to enter the real SEALs training!

I missed their tour last year when they came to UCLA because I was preparing for an amateur bodybuilding show. I was hoping they would come back this way in 2009, but Tempe, Arizona and Seattle, Washington are their closest stops to me this year. I followed a specific training routine to get ready for the event, which is really based on endurance rather than strength or speed. Here are the minimum standards for the Navy SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST):
  • 500-yard swim (using sidestroke or breaststroke) under 12 ½ minutes
  • 42 Push-Ups in 2 minutes
  • 50 Sit-Ups in 2 minutes
  • 6 Pull-Ups no time limit
  • 1.5 Mile Run under 11 minutes
Here are my scores for my first competition:
  • Swim Time (breaststroke) in 10:00
  • 90 Push-Ups
  • 60 Sit-Ups
  • 12 Pull-Ups
  • 1.5 Mile Run in 11:03
What an amazing event! I felt like a little child going to Disneyland for the first time! Talking to real-life heroes who protect our great nation and meeting other fitness-minded people was something that only fueled my enthusiasm to compete with the SEALs again. So I am taking this first round as a baseline to focus on improving for the next Navy SEALs Fitness Challenge. Keeping in shape positively affects every other aspect of my life. Vitashake®, NuPlus®, Fortune Delight® are all part of my pre- and post-workout food regimens, along with the rest of the Sunrider® foods. One of my self-assigned missions here at the Sunrider corporate office is to see how far I can push my physical performance using Sunrider® foods without having to resort to using the unhealthy and sometimes dangerous alternative supplements and performance enhancing products that are out there on the market. Instead of consuming a chemical protein powder or amino- acid supplement that just push the body out of balance, I am marking my physical performance progress with an aggressive workout program combined with using these amazing foods based on Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration™. It is my belief that the general public doesn’t give their bodies enough credit for what their amazing “machines” can do for them if they just fed them properly and helped them achieve a harmonious balance among all 5 systems of the body. My motto is “take care of your body and your body will take care of you!” Tune in for more updates in the near future!

The 2008 Arnold Sports Festival was a big hit for Sunrider International!

I’m excited to tell our blog readers a little about Sunrider International’s participation both as a sponsor and a competitor at the 2008 Arnold Sports Festival, a 3-day event that promotes "a weekend of sports and a lifetime of fitness." Held in Columbus, Ohio from February 29 to March 2, it’s the largest annual sports festival in the world, with 17,000 athletes competing in a wide variety of events—only the Olympics are bigger and they occur every four years. The Festival features 37 events and 12 Olympic sports, and attracts 150,000 sports and fitness enthusiasts from around the world. And this year was extra special as it was the 20th anniversary of the Festival’s centerpiece event—the Arnold Classic—which is considered to be among the most prestigious bodybuilding competitions in the world.

Sunrider as Sponsor
One of the main reasons Sunrider started sponsoring the Arnold Sports Festival in 2006 was to provide financial support to showcase top athletes from China. This event also provides a great venue to introduce the attendees to a successful worldwide company that has been providing “Health and Wealth” to the world for over 25 years. Sunrider was delighted this year to sponsor Zhang Jie and his teammate Lu Changliang, junior weightlifting champions from the Chinese Weightlifting Association. Both of these amazing athletes wowed the crowds on center stage with their performances as shown below.

Sunrider is also dedicated to supporting various other athletic activities and events, as evidenced by Sunrider International’s selection to be the sole nutritional supplement provider for the Israel Olympic team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

When people ask me “What is Sunrider?” I often give them the following quick 30-second response:

● 25 years of stable financial growth
● Currently doing business in 42 countries
● Self manufacturer of over 400 exclusive products
● Own and operate over 2 million square feet of manufacturing facilities in 4 countries
● Opportunities to own a business system we consider to be better than a franchise.

Here are some approximate details about our newest manufacturing plant addition currently under construction near Los Angeles, CA:

● State-of the-art pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing equipment
● Nearly 1 million-square feet of working space
● 150 million dollar estimated total investment
● Perimeter of the project is approximately 1 mile long
● Ribbon cutting ceremony during our Grand Convention in July 2008

Sunrider as Competitor
Although I’ve always enjoyed bodybuilding as a hobby, I became really excited about competing in the sport because of Sunrider’s sponsorship presence at the event and being surrounded by thousands of athletes and fitness enthusiasts. Last year, I set a personal goal to compete in my first amateur bodybuilding show and I took third place in the lightweight division. A few months later I found out that my third place finish had qualified me to compete at the 2nd annual amateur bodybuilding competition during the Arnold Sports Festival. Sunrider was already planning to send me back in 2008 as a sponsor representative anyways, so now I could also participate “on stage” instead of just watching from a distance—this was to be the perfect mix of business and pleasure!

My exercise regimen consisted of working with my professional fitness trainer twice a week for about an hour, and then a one-hour per day workout 4 more days during the week by myself, and then resting on Sundays. My dietary supplementation for this show came only from Sunrider’s exclusively formulated “foods” made with our own pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing equipment to ensure the highest quality foods. From where I started before beginning this journey to compete as a bodybuilder, I can enthusiastically say that I looked great and felt great on stage!

All in all Sunrider was honored to participate both as a sponsor and as a competitor during this very special anniversary year for the Arnold Sports Festival.

Hawaii Regional Meeting

The Hawaii Regional Meeting held in Honolulu on December 27, 2007 was very special for me in so many ways. First of all, this trip was part of a prescheduled family Christmas vacation in Hawaii so I got to mix business with pleasure on this one. I have to admit that I always feel a little bit guilty taking up the invitations of our Independent Business Owners to go tour local attractions or do any sightseeing when I visit their beautiful cities during regional meetings. I guess I feel like I get to have all this fun while my wife Wendy is at home wrestling with our kids. Anyways, on this particular trip I could whole-heartedly enjoy the whole package since my family was there, too!

Secondly, my Brother-in-Law Reuben and his wife Katie also made the trip to Hawaii and they treated me to an introductory scuba diving experience for my Christmas present. I braved the merciless power of the Pacific Ocean to a depth of 41 feet and swam right next to sea turtles and eels. Sorry no photos to show since my so called “waterproof” camera immediately filled up with water once I jumped in the water.

Next, the Hawaii meeting date also marked my 4-year wedding anniversary and I am happy to report that I was fully prepared to give Wendy a big surprise during the evening meeting. I hired a guitar player to accompany me as I serenaded Wendy to the music of the Hawaiian Wedding Song. We then danced one more verse of the same song during the intermission between the opportunity meeting and the training meeting. I then handed her a beautiful anniversary ring that I brought with me from the mainland. It was a true-to-form day in the life of the Sunrider family—business and pleasure all mixed together into one big fun event!

And last but not least the actual Hawaii meeting! The evening represented a reunion of the Chen family with our beloved Sunrider friends in Hawaii. With the greatly appreciated help of our dear Sunrider friends, the Sugai family, a beautiful hotel venue was prepared to receive loyal Sunriders and guests at the big event. I was given the chance to share an opportunity meeting overview for all of the new guests. Dr. Chen, founder of Sunrider International, then shared a very powerful training message of how to effectively combine the power of the products with the earning potential of the compensation plan into one solid message that was so easy to understand and duplicate!

Although each trip to Hawaii always seems so short, I am really excited to go back again this February with all of our Sunrider leaders to enjoy the food, entertainment, and training awaiting those who qualified for the North American Leadership Conference. See you in Hawaii my friends!

Turkey Trot Fun Run

I volunteered to get up at the crack of dawn on Thanksgiving morning to set up a Sunrider convention booth in support of the 28th annual City of Torrance Turkey Trot. Sunrider was one of the proud sponsors of this meaningful local event and I really wanted to personally be there to participate and to introduce Sunrider to the neighboring communities that surround the corporate headquarters. One of the Sunrider attorneys graciously agreed to join me in the morning to unload boxes, set up the booth, and to help me socialize with interested visitors.

The run also featured a food drive that collected thousands of canned food items from the participants to distribute to people in need throughout the South Bay. The proceeds from the Turkey Trot were then used to offset the costs of running "After School Club Programs" at fourteen local schools. These programs provide quality activities and care for Torrance youth. Several other Sunrider staff members specifically at the event to run in the race also dropped by afterwards to offer a helping hand as needed.

Curious visitors came by the Sunrider booth before and after the run and received a Simply the Best™ Brochure along with a beautiful Sunrider logo bag. Everyone interested in learning more about Sunrider’s “franchise-like” business opportunity and the vast array of “Simply the Best™” products were given the contact information to Sunrider’s corporate headquarters to drop by for an eye-opening and awe-inspiring visit!
