Sunrider Shines at Orange County’s Largest Mixer VII
On March 23, Sunrider International participated in Orange County’s Largest Mixer VII with hundreds of businesses attending from around Orange County and beyond.
Sunrider, once again, had one of the busiest tables, generating lots of energy and attention. In order to introduce attendees to the Philosophy of Regeneration™, a diverse selection of products such as Fortune Delight®, SunBreeze® Oil, and Kandesn® Skin Care and Color Cosmetics were showcased. This helped them understand beauty from the inside out and the outside in. We had a perfect location close to the entrance and right next to a beautiful jewelry table. The ladies liked that they could match Kandesn® Lip Colors to their new baubles!
The dynamic group of IBOs who participated was enthused to share the uniqueness of Sunrider’s business opportunity. Jessica Jansen, one of the attending IBOs, said the event was really productive and that everyone she approached responded well to Sunrider. Her “hit product” was Fortune Delight®, and she said people lit up when they tried it. Then they really wanted to hear more about the benefits and ingredients. Jessica was surprised by their desire for more detailed information. Stephanie Gylden enjoyed interacting with the people and felt it was one of the most exciting events she had ever attended.
Another long-time IBO who came was Dafna Topper, and she really enjoyed the high energy of the event. Everyone who came to our area was very open to the products, and she had most success at engaging people with the Oi-Lin® Skin Care Set. Dafna made about 26 contacts, many of whom were interested in learning more about the business opportunity, so we can look forward to watching the Sunrider family grow more in the weeks to come!
IBOs Tim and Mary Young also attended, meeting numerous people who were with Sunrider years ago and had really enjoyed the products. These folks were ecstatic about the new pricing structure, and many will be purchasing again. Mary felt Sunrider is really starting to brand itself with events like this. She made at least 30 serious contacts, many of whom would love to visit World Headquarters to tour the Chen Art Gallery and experience the full range of Kandesn® Skin Care and Cosmetics during a workshop with Kandesn® Marketing Manager, Julie McLewee.
For Sunrider staff and IBOs alike, Orange County’s Largest Mixer VII was a smash and sure to help Sunrider International achieve the brand recognition it deserves!

Vitalite Success Story

Lin Tsan Shih
ABO, Taiwan
Six years ago, when I was just 35 years old, I was overweight, tipping the scales at 104 kilograms (about 229 lbs). Stemming in part from having some unhealthy lifestyle habits, including eating out for most of my meals, having a fondness for rich foods, and frequently drinking nutrition-void beverages sold at convenience stores, I was in poor health. In fact, when I was only 25, my SGPT (Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase) levels were so elevated I couldn’t even donate blood. Eventually, I was diagnosed with diseases such as ventricular hypertrophy, hypertension, and paroxysmal tachycardia.
Then I found Sunrider, and it changed my life! At first, I was reluctant to take Sunrider® products, because I didn’t understand what they were about or the philosophy behind them. However, after learning more about the company, the products, and the Philosophy of Regeneration™, I became determined to implement a Vitalite® Weight Management Program. I was further inspired after hearing a testimonial shared by a pregnant woman who had achieved great results with Sunrider (she loved and used Fortune Delight® and VitaShake®!):
“I’ve now been taking Sunrider® products for more than 10 years and have realized great results, even while having my first baby, a very healthy and clever child. I really enjoy how the products make me look and feel.”
The result of making Vitalite® products part of a healthy routine is that within two months I was able to lose 24 kilograms (about 53 lbs.), and my waistline was reduced from 42 to 34 inches.* Meanwhile, both my physical ailments and mental state have improved a lot. Pain and discomfort that had been bothering me for a long time also disappeared. More marvelously, my slim wife, who took the same products with me, gained two kilograms (about 2 lbs.). Thus, I was very impressed by the Sunrider’s unique Philosophy of Regeneration™, how Sunrider® products, nourish, cleanse, and balance the body.
Through Sunrider, I’ve not only helped myself, but I also have the opportunity to help other people get fit and achieve enhanced vitality and health. I’m also proud of having my own store, located in the Hsin Yi District, the most flourishing business area of Taipei. I now hope to help more and more people revitalize their lives with Sunrider!
*In conjunction with regular exercise and a healthy diet. Results not typical.

Behind the scenes of Sunrider: IP attorney
During Convention, the members of the Legal Department help guide tours of Sunrider World Headquarters. It is interesting meeting IBOs/ABOs from around the world, but I dread answering the inevitable question: “What do you do at Sunrider?” When I say that I am senior counsel primarily responsible for all intellectual property issues, I usually encounter confused looks (which I am used to, because most non-IP attorneys also do not understand my job). A further explanation that I coordinate Sunrider’s worldwide portfolio of trademarks, patents, copyrights, domain names, and related disputes only makes my job title less clear. Explaining that I’m responsible for the ® and ™ symbols they see on Sunrider product names is enough to satisfy their curiosity. With this blog post, I’d like to explain a little more about what I do here at Sunrider, and how that helps IBOs/ABOs.
The largest part of my job is management of Sunrider’s extensive worldwide trademark portfolio. For those who do not know, a trademark is a name or symbol that lets consumers know where a product or service originates. This is really important here at Sunrider because of all of the time and effort Drs. Chen put into Sunrider® products. When someone tries Quinary® or Fortune Delight® for the first time, they learn the product names and see the Sunrider name and logo on the packaging. When they learn how these products are formulated and manufactured, they then associate those names and logos with Sunrider’s commitment to high standards. If they encounter the Sunrider brand elsewhere, they will automatically assume similar levels of product quality.
This is why it is essential to protect Sunrider’s names and logos worldwide. Working with two indispensable paralegals (both have been at Sunrider for over 15 years!), we maintain Sunrider’s trademarks in all affiliate countries (plus a number of other strategic countries). With the assistance of a number of international law firms, we deal with trademark offices in about 80 countries. We file trademark applications, which are reviewed, argued, and (hopefully) approved and registered. Sunrider has over 3500 trademark registrations worldwide, and almost 700 pending trademark applications. We also have a large number of ongoing trademark disputes, often trying to stop a trademark that is too similar to a Sunrider mark. With strong trademarks around the world, the Chens can promote Sunrider’s brands worldwide, opening and expanding markets for IBOs and ABOs.
Another large part of my job is reviewing all Sunrider labels and US marketing materials for intellectual property issues (yes, often in languages I do not understand). There is a legal difference between ® and ™, and I need to make sure the right symbol is used (and when not to use any symbol). Another lawyer and paralegal also must approve these materials; however they look at non-IP issues. I also file copyright applications to protect the text, images, and photographs in all Sunrider marketing materials—so that no one can use these without Sunrider’s permission. All of this ensures that all marketing materials and product packaging comply with applicable laws, do not infringe the rights of others, and are available for the exclusive use of IBOs and ABOs.
A growing part of my job involves the Internet. I manage Sunrider’s worldwide domain name portfolio and enforce Sunrider’s trademarks in domain names as well as Internet content. When you submit an English website for compliance review through the Internet Compliance Form, I’m the one who does that review. I have been an Internet server administrator (professionally and as a hobby) since 1993. As a “secret” computer geek, I have been able to assist Sunrider’s expansion into social media (including Facebook and Twitter). This background has also allowed me to participate in several organizations working to help strengthen trademark rights on the Internet.
A question that IBOs/ABOs ask SR employees at Convention is, “What do you like about working for Sunrider?” It’s a tough question for me to answer unless they know the details of my job, so I can now finally answer it here. My favorite part of my job is identifying new trademarks. When the Chens have a new product or idea, they need to choose a name. Because new trademarks cannot be similar to existing ones, the Chens suggest a number of names that I then search. I research trademark databases and the Internet, and let the Chens know which names may be available. Sometimes this involves several rounds, because some proposed names are not available for use. Once chosen, we then file trademark applications around the world. This is fun because I learn about products early in development, enjoy gaining some insight into the Chens’ thought process, and see how Sunrider continues to grow after 27 years. And no- I can’t give any hints about what’s coming up!

So Long and Farewell
Margaret Limp, a Sunrider Order Department employee of over 20 years, retired last Friday, March 12.
In honor of her many years of service, a Hawaiian-themed surprise farewell luncheon was held, including a delicious catered lunch and lots of festive decorations. Margaret was seen the rest of the day sporting the “lei” she received at the lunch.

Later that afternoon, another surprise awaited Margaret as employees from every department gathered in the Sunny Café for cake and final goodbyes!
Prior to the big retirement day, donations were collected for a gift to recognize Margaret’s achievement and dedication. She graciously received a beautiful watch, a Visa gift card, a Torrance Bakery gift card, a Quiznos gift card, and a delicious fruit flower arrangement from Edible Arrangements. Margaret was grateful for everyone’s attendance and is looking forward to sleeping in!
Congratulations, Margaret, on your retirement—we hope you enjoy every minute of it!

Sunrider Media Coverage Grows in Korea
Sunrider has been receiving a lot of publicity in both online and traditional media in Korea recently. Seven articles appeared in February alone that describe how cosmetics and skin care products made from naturally derived, healthy ingredients are becoming increasingly popular in today’s marketplace and how Sunrider is positioned perfectly to take advantage of this development.
The articles mention how consumers are becoming savvier about health and beauty products; they want to know exactly what the ingredients are and the function and benefits of each ingredient. The articles relate how Sunrider® products are attractive to today’s discerning consumer, as Sunrider® products are self-manufactured according to the strictest standards of quality control and safety, and contain only the finest natural ingredients.
All Sunrider® products, including Sunrider’s Oi-Lin® and Kandesn® lines, are made according to the company’s “Philosophy of Regeneration™,” which states that the body needs to be nourished, cleansed, and balanced to achieve optimal health and beauty. It’s often said that Sunrider® skin care and cosmetics products are not only nourishing for the skin, but “good enough to eat” because of their pure, natural ingredients, which contain no questionable ingredients or animal by-products.
