Sunrider—a Global ‘Total Beauty Company’ Based on the ‘Philosophy of Regeneration®’

The following content was translated from Korean and based on an online article appearing in the Daily Cosmetic (July 15, 2010), a media website featuring health and beauty news.

Founded by Dr. Tei-Fu Chen in 1982, Sunrider is a global “total beauty company,” operating in 42 countries, with about 7,000 franchise stores operating worldwide. Sunrider embodies Dr. Chen’s belief about nurturing both inner health and outer beauty, and how these two aspects are integrally related.

Sunrider Korea transformed its business model from direct marketing to franchising in February 2010, and there are currently 120 operating franchise stores in the country. Sunrider self-manufactures 415 products, and from these, about 250 of them are sold throughout Korea, including herbal foods and beverages, nutritional supplements, and skin care and cosmetic products.

Based on Dr. Chen’s Philosophy of Regeneration®, Sunrider develops products that help nourish, cleanse, and balance the body’s five systems, as well as its sixth, the skin. After all, skin needs to breathe, perspire, and be well-balanced, which can be supported through proper nourishment, cleansing, and a strong immune system.

Sunrider® products have a 65–70% repurchasing rate, and the products are attracting more and more women in their 30s and 40s who want to look beautiful and feel revitalized.

To help the body and skin stay balanced and healthy, Sunrider’s herbal cosmetics are made under strict quality control measures, using proprietary manufacturing processes and only the finest, carefully selected herbs and plants. Sunrider® products contain no animal byproducts, petroleum byproducts, or mineral oils in their ingredients. Also, Sunrider’s unique formulations are extremely concentrated to ensure maximum absorption of the nutrients by the body.

Sunrider’s cosmetics are made with safe, beneficial, and naturally derived ingredients, such as stevia, tea extracts, micronutrients, antioxidants, and approximately 1,000 different types of herbal enzymes. Sunrider’s way of making cosmetics is causing quite a stir in the Korean market and adding to the “Cho-Bon [Korean for herbal] cosmetics mania.” Sunrider’s cho-bon cosmetics/skin care products are formulated with extremely fine particles so that nutrients can be absorbed without clogging pores, allowing the skin to breathe.

Since the conversion to a new business model in the country, it’s been an exciting milestone year for Sunrider Korea. In addition to the 120 stores operating now, more growth is expected, including the opening of a Sunrider Korea flagship store in the near future.

I loved learning the Korean word for "herbal"!

And I feel so fortunate to be using the Kandesn products for so many years. Thanks, Sunrider!
