Sunworld Dynasty™ Hotel Taipei Aids Typhoon Relief Efforts

Dr. Tei-Fu Chen, in addition to being the founder and chairman of the board of Sunrider International, is also the owner of three hotels in Asia, including the Sunworld Dynasty™ Hotel Taipei in Taiwan. Although Dr. Chen no longer lives in Taiwan, his deeply rooted connection to the country of his birth (and formative years) was evidenced recently after Typhoon Morakot wreaked havoc in Taiwan. This cataclysmic disaster spurred Dr. Chen to swiftly galvanize relief efforts at his hotel and channel contributions to foundations set up to aid the victims.

Typhoon Morakot, one of the deadliest typhoons to impact Taiwan in recorded history, formed early on August 2, 2009 as an unnamed tropical depression. The large system gradually intensified and was upgraded to a typhoon. Early on August 7, the storm attained its peak intensity and hit central Taiwan later that day. Typhoon Morakot caused terrible damage, leaving hundreds dead and forcing over a million people to evacuate their homes. The typhoon’s path of destruction left countless people in need of food, shelter, and medical attention.

Dr. Chen responded to the calamity by encouraging his staff at the Sunworld Dynasty™ Hotel Taipei to contribute funds to the Disaster Relief Foundations of two prominent satellite cable news television channels in Taiwan: TVBS News and FTV News. The Dr. Chen-initiated fund drive took place from August 15 through September 15, 2009.

In addition to the staff contribution drive, Dr. Chen has mandated that the service fees from the hotel’s food and beverage department be donated to the relief fund. It is Dr. Chen’s hope that the collective charitable contributions from the employees and hotel service fees will provide some measure of support to the disaster victims as they try to rebuild their lives.

The Best Ingredients

Sometimes, our customers and IBOs wonder if we use organic ingredients. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation. A government agency must inspect and certify the farm before the food can be labeled “organic.”

Many of our products use herbs and plants that grow in the wild in their natural environment. I believe nature is the best “farmer”—man cannot successfully duplicate many of nature’s best creations. That’s why we prefer using ingredients grown by nature rather than organic farms.

As a manufacturer of health foods, I am especially concerned about the environment. Because of pollution, many foods, even organic foods, may contain unacceptable levels of heavy metals. We monitor the heavy metal content of our herbs and often reject hundreds of pounds of herbs that do not meet our strict standards.

In addition to the heavy metal content, I also care about how our foods are handled. All herbs and plants, whether grown in the wild, in an organic farm, or in a traditional farm, have dirt, pests, and other contaminants. We take the extra steps of cleaning the herbs by hand and machine rather than grinding and/or irradiating the herbs along with their contaminants.

We also use a trade-secret manufacturing process to extract and concentrate the beneficial essences from our herbs. This makes the final product much more powerful and effective than just mixing the herbs on the ingredient listing.

I want all of you to have confidence that Sunrider uses the best ingredients and makes the best products.
