The “Sunrider Brainstorm List” from the 2009 Grand Convention IBO Training Workshop

For those of you who attended Thursday morning’s IBO Training Workshop with featured speakers Mack Atkinson, Sandra Besemann, May Yee, and yours truly, you will remember that we created a brainstorm list of ideas from our audience regarding how to answer the question “What is Sunrider?” Several of you have asked that I reproduce this list, so I am posting it below so you can review it and consider ways to share similar ideas when answering this very important question!

What is Sunrider?

1. Sunrider helps give me a great way to eat myself to life.
2. Sunrider pays me to eat and talk.
3. Sunrider helps me to replace people’s products and to listen to their needs.
4. Sunrider® foods are helping me to reinvent my body.
5. Sunrider allows people to make money as they learn how to eat properly.
6. Sunrider provides me with the best foods on the planet.
7. Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration™ helps me to live longer and stronger.
8. Sunrider helps me shop smarter.
9. Sunrider makes healthy fast-food.
10. Sunrider pays me to live healthy.

There you have it, and I hope that these ideas from your peers will help you consider your own unique way to sincerely and easily share your enthusiasm for “Health and Wealth” and Sunrider’s Philosophy of Regeneration™ with the 99.9% of North America still waiting to hear about us for the very first time!

Sincerely,

John Teng

Ernie Wang is Sunrider’s July Employee of the Month!

Ernie Wang is an auditor in Sunrider’s Internal Audit department and has been with the company for two years. Ernie performs company audits locally and around the world, and is often gone for weeks visiting far away affiliates! He meticulously sorts through records and procedures, and makes suggestions for improvements.

Ernie showed remarkable efforts in leading the Promo Sales area at headquarters during the recent Convention. Ernie didn’t stop until 1:00 am for three straight days the weekend before convention officially began, and the following Wednesday, he worked the entire night without sleep to close out in Torrance, and get ready to start in Anaheim the next day.
Ernie is a caring, sincere, and exceptional person—we are lucky to have him! Congratulations, Ernie, on your Employee of the Month achievement, and thank you for your amazing attitude and efforts during Convention!

I asked Ernie a few questions so we could get to know him better.

Q1: What is the best thing about being a SR employee?
A1: Sunrider is a great company to work for. I have a terrific boss who treats me with dignity, respect, and is always willing to coach me. The company offers competitive wages, excellent benefits, and provides a healthy work environment. My colleagues are helpful, collaborative, and friendly. I feel deep in my heart that Sunrider is simply the best!

Q2: What’s your best memory of SR?
A2: The most memorable one was when I got the support I needed most during the last Grand Convention, i.e., while I was severely short on “pickers” at the Product Sales operation. Janene, our Human Resources Director, provided the leadership and initiative to send additional staff in time to ensure Product Sales was a success. I was so moved that I truly could not thank her enough.

Q3: What do you like most about your job?
A3: The fundamental responsibility of my job is to assist members of Sunrider in the effective discharge of their responsibilities by testing internal controls over all areas of operations. In a nutshell, my job is to ensure that Sunrider businesses are run effectively and efficiently. However, technology is rapidly changing the nature of most internal auditors’ work. With this ever-evolving business world, internal auditors are facing challenges in replacing the “control activities” with an internal control structure consisting of five elements: control environment, risk assessment, control activities, communication and information, and monitoring. To confront these challenges head on and ascertain that the results of operations are consistent with established objectives is what I love most about my job.

Q4: What’s your favorite color?
A4: I love red, blue, and white. That was the very reason that some 30 years ago I came to this country, which I love so dearly. However, blue would be my most favorite color if I had to pick one of the three.

Q5: Do you have any pets?
A5: No, I do not for the time being. Nevertheless, I am looking forward to adopting a few lovely birds in the near future.

Ernie, congratulations on your achievement!

Fanatics for Fitness! Sunrider Networks at Bally’s Expo

Sunrider has plenty of products ideally suited to support a workout routine, so it’s no surprise we hosted a booth at a recent Bally’s Expo. We served Fortune Delight® and demonstrated several products, including SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse, SunBreeze® Oil and Balm, and the Oi-Lin® Skin Care Set.

North American Sales Manager, John Teng, an avid gym-goer, connected with multiple people who want to build muscle and strength, and discussed how some of our products, such as the SunSport® Pack, can help achieve those goals…some fitness tips were swapped, too!

Julie McLewee, our Kandesn® Marketing Manager, told passersby about the Kandesn® cosmetic line and Oi-Lin® skin care line. Ladies stopped to learn about the uniqueness of our make-up and skin care products and even made appointments to visit the Kandesn® room next week!

IBOs Debbie Clydesdale, Juan Flores, and Mary and Tim Young helped man the booth and support our presence at the expo. Mary, Tim, and Debbie helped explain the benefits of our foods and supplements, while Juan Flores was able to connect with the large Hispanic community there getting fit and healthy! Many business cards changed hands and the Sunrider brand will be recognized more because of our attendance!

FDA Approval and Sunrider® Products

We’d like to take this opportunity to address an issue that some Sunriders asked about during the Grand Convention:

Does the FDA approve Sunrider® products? Why do some products have an FDA disclaimer on them?

While dietary supplements are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) in the United States, they do not issue “approvals” of products in this category. There is no such thing as an FDA stamp of approval on a dietary supplement, and if you see one, either the product does not fall into this category, or the manufacturer is making it up. Sunrider’s dietary supplement products follow all of the strict guidelines detailed by the FDA, including following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). Our manufacturing facility, located in Los Angeles County, is inspected regularly by various health departments. The County inspects once a month, the State inspects every six months, and the FDA inspects at least once a year. Furthermore, Sunrider only uses the safest ingredients, which have been approved for use by the FDA.

Sunrider does indeed have a Drug License, issued by the FDA, for some of our cosmetic products, which the FDA also regulates as drugs. We use the strictest quality control to ensure that our products are safe, effective, and environmentally friendly. This is at the core of Dr. Chen’s Philosophy of RegenerationTM, which ends up placing a much higher standard for Sunrider that other companies do not follow.

The FDA deems particular statements to be what the industry calls “structure/function claims,” which require the FDA disclaimer. Sunrider complies with federal law by placing an FDA disclaimer on our dietary supplements that are accompanied by a structure/function claim.

What Sunriders Are Saying about Grand Convention

Sunrider's 2009 Grand Convention ended nearly two weeks now, but we’re still feeling the excitement as testimonials and notes of thanks and encouragement continue to pour in! We thought it’d be nice to share a few of these with you, so please read below and enjoy. We hope they make you feel as content and satisfied as they do us!

Susan and Ray Glend said:
John, we had such an exciting time at convention; you were not kidding when you said this would be the best convention ever! We learned so much at this convention. Thank you and everyone there for all the hard work in making it so special for all of us.
Juan Flores said:
It was a pleasure to be in the teleconference this afternoon. As always, I hope I can help someone in the line prosper and make this easier for them, so we can all benefit from the branding we are giving to Sunrider.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, and through you thank Dr. Chen, Mrs. Chen, Wendy, Sunny, and everyone else for the exaggerated success the Grand Convention was at the Anaheim Convention Center. Everyone is so excited and happy about the next convention because of what they learned from this convention that even some of our recent consumers talked about going to next year’s convention if it is so much of a fun learning experience.

Let me tell you, people are very happy with this year’s convention. The way it was set up was great— from the pick-up area, to the order process, to food, and the halls where the workshops were held, the tours of the Manufacturing Plant. Everything about the Philosophy of Regeneration™ and how it can help people from all walks of life achieve optimal health so they can at last feel good and look even better by using the “NCB formula”…through our exclusive line of products from the Sunergy® foods to the Kandesn® and Oi-Lin® skin care lines, and more…

Please express my most sincere gratitude to the Chen Family for making this a spectacular event full of learning, excitement, and fun.

Again, thank you and best regards.

Your friend,

Juan Flores

Dear John and Wendy,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for what we consider possibly the best Sunrider convention since 1994 (the first one I attended). China was great as well.

What made it so great? The seminars were wonderful with people speaking from the heart. The size (just under 1,500) was excellent—no long lines, especially in the woman's bathroom where most Sunrider ladies congregate. We loved the game show, John. One of our brand new VIPs that attended was so impressed with your family sharing what has happened to them in the past year. She is impressed with longevity and stability, and she saw that Sunrider is going to be here for a looooong time. It’s always one of our favorite parts of the week as well. We’ve watched the Chen “children” grow up over the past 20 years and feel that you are very much a part of our extended family.

We loved that Dr. Chen is back to talking about product. This is what inspired us 20 years ago and created our whole group. We have been doing Product Fairs since day one and have always found them very effective. We have to add that only three Canadians received Dr. Chen’s award—ourselves and two of our distributors—so it was extra special for us this year.

Whoever recommended the Fab 4 for entertainment was brilliant! Everyone around us was singing and dancing in the aisles. Amazing, amazing, amazing! It did show us, however, that we definitely need to start bringing younger people into the company. It’s scary that almost everyone there knew the words to the songs. You pretty much need to be over 50 to do that.

Speaking of younger people, our 23 year old son, Michael, has agreed to start building a Sunrider business if Dr. Chen can bring his hot sauce into Canada in gallon jugs. Michael is a connoisseur of hot sauce and said it was the best he ever tasted.

Wishing you and the whole family all the best,

Ray and Tricia Holder,
Group Business Leaders
It’s always very encouraging and uplifting to receive kind words and thoughts, so please feel free to send us your own! We look forward to spending another Grand Convention with you soon!

2009 Sunrider Grand Convention—“Sunrider…My Choice!”

The 2009 Grand Convention was based in Anaheim, California, July 20–25, and attracted nearly 1,500 Sunriders from 17 countries. This annual event is the ultimate way for Sunriders from around the world to unite as one “global family” to learn from Drs. Chen, share ideas, build friendships, and celebrate the “Sunrider lifestyle.” To achieve this, Sunrider prepared a program that proved to be the ideal vehicle for delivering all this and more.

To increase product knowledge and sharpen business skills, there were specially designed meetings and workshops led by Drs. Chen and experienced Business Leaders. Attendees left fortified with knowledge, confidence, and a reignited passion to achieve their Sunrider goals.

Tours were conducted to give Sunriders an up-close look at Sunrider’s impressive World Headquarters and its two onsite crown jewels: the beautiful Botanical Gardens and the stunning Chen Art Gallery. Attendees also toured the Los Angeles Manufacturing Plants and were awed by the expansive facilities and ultramodern equipment. The Product Fair, a “Sunrider classic,” returned to the convention and was a huge hit—proving there’s no better way to connect with people and products!

The Grand Convention also presents the perfect platform to recognize the people who have reached the upper tiers of Sunrider success, distinguishing not only themselves but Sunrider, through their leadership, professionalism, and drive. These inspirational role-models help keep Sunrider flourishing into the future and were duly honored onstage alongside Drs. Chen throughout the week.

The renewed emphasis on products and the Philosophy of Regeneration™—the blueprint behind all Sunrider® formulations—created extreme excitement and was embraced by everyone. Dr. Chen® Herbal Hair & Scalp Treatment, Pearl™ Artesian Mineral Water, and Dr. Chen® Brightening Serum, were just a few of the exclusive Sunrider® products Dr. Chen showcased and spoke passionately about, providing expert-based reasons why Sunrider® products are matchless in quality, safety, and effectiveness.

The convention was also the perfect place to unveil polished new marketing tools and to promote Sunrider’s growing online presence. The world of Sunrider can now be accessed “virtually anywhere,” and is well represented with blogs, a micro blog, and expanding, full-feature websites. Real-time “tweets” and blog posts kept Sunriders who couldn’t attend tuned into the action. (Please visit our Blogspot, Facebook, and Twitter sites today!)

The convention also marked the emergence of the innovative ABO and IBO marketing plans, which have been carefully designed and implemented by Drs. Chen to provide people worldwide with an even greater opportunity to own their own world-class business. Business Leaders from around the world shared their success stories onstage and served as compelling testimony to the life-transforming power of Sunrider.

To top off the event week, two riveting General Sessions and a spectacular Gala Evening were held over Friday and Saturday, providing Sunriders with inspiration and insights from Drs. Chen, enthralling entertainment, fabulous food, and memories that’ll last a lifetime. The Gala Evening segment of the “Beatles Experience” was so phenomenal that by the final song, everyone was dancing in their seats and in the aisles, including VIP guest Sheriff Lee Baca!

Attendees learned, shared, cheered, hugged, and danced their way through the entire convention, and by week’s end the convention message was as crystal clear as Pearl™ Artesian Mineral Water: across all boundaries and cultures, for family, health, and wealth, Sunrider is the right choice for today and for generations to come.

Drs. Chen would like to thank all the Sunriders whose loyalty, enthusiasm, and support made this convention so special and rewarding. Drs. Chen hope the momentum will carry forward and act as a springboard for even better days ahead through sharing the Sunrider opportunity.
